I installed v11 and created my job, but get the following error when I try to run the backup:

Haven't tried normal compression.
OS is Windows 2008 R2 64 Bit
Backing up to a external USB Hard Drive (Tried both the local Drive letter and shared it out via a UNC)

i get the same on server 2008, just wont backup anything. this product was rushed - pretty sad really as years of trust is lost in just a few hours.

Is MMS running?
Is Agent Core and Acronis Agent definitely installed?
Have you tried running a repair install?

Hello, I have the same problem as Jason.
I have installed the administrative console of ABR11(up to date) on a windows server 2003 R2 x32 standard edition, and I have got one Acronis agent on a windows server 2008 R2 x64. The image is going on a local RDX disk.
The first backup task on this server was succesful, but now the backup task failed whit this error:

The only way I found for get ride with this error is to disable VSS in the backup plan option !
By the way, I have got another Acronis agent on a windows server 2003 R2 x32 standard edition who failled with this error:

I will try to disable the VSS in this plan, the backup task will launch this evening.
I specify that 2 other servers (1 x 2003 R2 and 1 x 2008 R2) backup fine with VSS activated.
I have one question: Is there any risk of losing data while disabling VSS ?

Hello, it is quite obvious that Acronis has a problem here.
On our W2011SBS Server we had installed Version 10 and could do all the backup-Tasks. Volume 1 and Volume 2 to a NAS.
However, since we upgraded to Version 11 Volume 1 cannot be saved any more.

What type of ABR11 install are you running - standalone Workstation, Advanced, with remote access, with licence server etc.
Has a ABR10 been installed previously?
Have you tried running a repair install?
Does the rescue CD see the NAS?

Since I desactivated VSS in my plans, all my backups works perfectly
@ Karl Schälow: I have 2 servers W2008 R2 with RDX 1000, I can backup on cartridges without any problem (scheduled Task) !
In case:
- Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Server (for virtual machine) (5 licences)
- Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Server Universal Restore (5 licences)
I never installed ABR10, I completely reinstalled all the products on my 4 servers (cleaning registry) and the rescue CD see my NAS...

Hi Colin
We are running Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Adv Srv SBS from the local machine.
Backing up Volume D: to the same NAS works fine.
However, the Backup of Volume C: fails.
Yes, the rescue CD does see the NAS.
Of course I have tried running a repair install.
Since all this did not help and there was no solution from your side, we went back to version 10 - and this one still works fine.

The issue some are reporting might be related to an issue with the “Hardware/Software – Select Automatically” Volume Shadown Copy Server (VSS) setting on some servers.
What you can try and do is change this VSS setting to “Software – System Provider” that should get things working (alternatively you can also 0try turning VSS OFF “Do not use VSS” for a test backup to see if that is indeed the cause of the issue)

B&R11 has many issues. One of them is a buggy Acronis VSS filter driver. This is a known Problem.

I disabled the "Acronis VSS Provider" service and I chose "Software System Provider" in the VSS backup option.
However what about the "Instant LVM" setting in the backup option; actually it's on "Acronis Backup & Recovery 11".
Should I change it to "Logical Volume Manager" ?

Last week ABR11 stopped imaging due to the fact it could no longer find any hard drives, though it could still find drives for a files backup.
I realised that somehow all references to SNAPMAN had disappeared from the registry and in fact the SNAPMAN.SYS had disappeared as well (this could of course all have been a coincidence). A repair install did not re-install snapman.
However, although I now had snapman back in registry and on the system, ABR11 still could not find any disk locations.
Then I had a brainwave, try a modify installation option, and there was the answer, although it was installed, Acronis Agent wasn't being recognised as being in existance and didn't appear in the installed list ready ticked. Ticking the option resulted in the Agent being properly installed and disk volumes now were recognised.
So, if you find a repair install hasn't fixed your problems, either try an extracted version of the Agent or select the 'modify' option from the main installer and see if that sorts the problem out.

Would you mind to share the step by step on how Advanced Server 11 deploy install agent to vcenter or esx(i) server ?
I really new in that version with Virtual machine support and no luck for a week and manual guide is useless in that case .....
the concept is different as I famous in Backup Exec before , thanks very much

Are you looking at the following section of the manul:

Select “Deployment” for some step by step instructions, but it will also give you a good overview of how it works.
I would also suggest looking into the Agent for ESX(i) Windows. This agent will allow you to avoid installing any appliances into your VMWare servers but instead your Window server has an agent installed that will communicate to VMWare and product the backups. This also reduces load from your VMWare server and is a new feature with ABR11.
If you are getting stuck using the above instructions please let us know what is not going right for you and at what steps (eg, any errors, messages..etc..etc).
I would also suggest posting a new topic in the forums as this topic is not related to ESX(i) virtual appliances or agents so you will find many users will not be able to find your post to offer assistance.

I am having the same problem as all of you. New ABR11 install on a Windows 2003 R2 server 32bit. The install was flawless. I created a simple volume backup to "run now" During the snapshot creation the file system is locked and all users are kicked out, RDP connections ended, etc... My server becomes unresponsive at the console and I have to down it hard. It never gets past creating the snapshot and I have waited up to 30 minutes.
ABR10 works flawlessly on another server. I can backup during the middle of the day if I want and it never causes any issues.

We have spent days upgrading Backup and Recovery 10 to Version 11. I have been working with Acronis Tech Support for nearly a week. Still have a product that won't backup anything. I am uninstalling and going back to Version 10. A product that works. Very disappointed at this time.

I had countless problems with all of my servers when i upgraded to ABR11 and now on to 11.5
I couldnt get backups to be consistent, sometimes they would just lock up and i couldnt get them to stop without hard booting my servers. Generally this is not an option in a production environment.
So i started thinking about what the problem could be. In my case, I was backing up over the network. So i did the following and it solved my problem 100% of the time...
Disable the following on the NIC properties under device manager...
Large Send Offload V1 & V2
Receive Side Scaling
TCP Connection Offload (IPv4 & IPv6)
TCP/UDP Checksum Offload (IPv4 & IPv6)
Basically you are turning of the TOE on your NIC. TOEs are a worthless technology that just causes problems. ESPECIALLY with extremely large file sizes and transferring them over the network.
