Backup taking long time to complete

Thread needs solution

Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 SBS version installed on SBS 2003 R2 Premium. We created a Simple Backup Plan to do 1 full backup followed by daily Incremental backups for each month.

Backups are contained in a Personal Vault.
Backing up 3 disks 1.7Tb in total size.
Full backup avg size is 425Gb which is compressed to 247Gb Tib file.
Incremental avg size is compressed to 6Gb.
Normal priority.
Use Dual Destination to sync personal vault with an eSata hard drive.
Perform a Validation of the last backup.

The backup starts at 22:00 hours and ends at 07:30 next day. The Validation then starts at 07:40 and ends at 08:20.

Regardless of Full or Incremntal, the process takes the same time. We previously used True Image server 9.1 running a Post Snyc21 java script to sync backups between folders and it took only.75 the time on a full and .25 on an incremental.

Is Dual Destination that slow?

From another Topic:
"When dual destination is enabled, the agent will automatically copy each backup being created locally to the secondary destination such as a network share. Once the backup to the primary destination is completed, the agent compares the updated archive contents to the secondary archive contents, and copies to the secondary destination all backups that are missing there along with the new backup. Therefore, it is considered to be a copy/paste operation. Retention rules are applied to the primary destination only."

Hello Ron,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

I am sending a file to you via Private Messages, please download, install it and compare the performance.

If the result doesn't satisfy you or the backup performance is not increased, please edit the task and exclude the dual destination option. Compare the results. This will help to localize the issue.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Oleg,

Installed the driver last night, insured the settings were as you described and rebooted the server. The backup task (incremental) executed on schedule but the problem persisits. After 8 hours it is still running, however, as I was watching the folders Dual Destination is re-writing "all" the files in the second destination folder! I did not think to look to see if this was happening before, but I'll bet it was. It is my understanding that DUal Destination "checks" to see if the file exisits and only writes those that are missing? Here is the other hang up. If I disable Dual Destination and try to run my old "Sync21" java script that does the same as Dual Destination, Acronis will not execute it as a Post program. Ran fine in True Image Echo Server 9.1. So what gives?

Hello Ron,

Thank you for your response.

Your understanding of the feature is correct. And actually, it should work faster. Could you please create a backup task specifying the eSATA drive as a destination drive (without using the Dual destination option). This will help to localize the issue. Also, if you use an USB hub, please plug the hard drive directly.

About the post commands. Please edit the task (or create a new one) and check the Fail the backup task if... and Do not back up until... options and see if the issue remains.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Oleg,

We use two 1TB eSata drives on a seperate Sata controller. No USB. Before attempting to use Dual Destination the backup performed fine. I setup a File Backup task to the personal vault on a drive O: and setup a Pre-/Post Command to sync O: the and P: drives. Attached are the errors generated first by trying to test the command and second during backup execution. Please note this script worked flawlessly in True Image Server and Echo Server 9.1.

 Hello Ron,

Thank you for your response.

Could you please attach the script to your next post? Also please provide us with the log file of the failed operation:

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Oleg,

Attached are the requested files. I imported the .xml into Excel and sent you that file. The Sync21_readme.txt file describes the functionality of the Java script. The sync-O-to-P.txt is the actual batch file used. Again, please note this script worked fine in previous version of Acronis and work fine outside of Acronis.

Thanks for your assistance.

 Hello Ron,

Thank you for the provided information.

Could you please clarify the following? Do you use your SBS 2003 R2 system as a domain controller?

If yes, are you able to give the issue a closer investigation? Do you agree to apply some debug files?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Oleg,

Microsoft Small Business Server 2003/2008 has to operate as the Domain controller of the SBS domain by design. It cannot be decoupled or run with a secondary domain controller. Your Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 SBS version was purposely purchased to run on this Small Business Server. Are you inferring that it "will not" run properly on an SBS Domain Controller? Then why did I encourage my client to buy it?

History: I am a Systems Consultant and this is a new SBS 2003 R2 Premium build for one of my clients. I ran Acronis True Image Server 9.1 on the previous SBS 2003 Standard with out issue. If you want me to further investigate I have to charge my time to the client. Is this absolutely necessary? I also suggest Acronis (if they have not already done so) open a ticket on this and furnish me the number.

Oleg,

I have submitted this issue through my clients Acronis account to Acronis Tech Support and requested I be the primary contact. I have also talked with my client and we need to know what is required next to proceed.

 Hello Ron,

Thank you for your responses.

We are aware of the issue you are experiencing, it is under investigation for now. Our developers requested some logs that can be obtained after applying several debug files. We would appreciate your possible assistance in getting the logs. This will help to expedite the resolution, because our QA team was unable to reproduce the issue in our test lab so far.

I would like to monitor your support case, could you please let me know the case number submitted through your clients Acronis account via Private Message?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
