Bare Metal Restore, with Partition increase

Thread needs solution

I'm wondering if this would be my best approach to migrating a Server 2003 box to a new server, mainly because of space issues. The current server is an 5 year old HP Prolient Server. We have purcahsed a new Dell PowerEdge 2900. The server is running great with no errors, but was configured with only a 10GB C Drive. I would like to see this setup with a 40GB C Drive. I'm wondering if a image backup of all the drives to an External HD, then a bare metal universal restore to the new Dell will allow me to increase the C Drive. There are 3 Partions on this box, all configured on one RAID-5 array. The space can be takin from the 3rd partion if need be, or the free space.

Please let me know your recommended approach. The other option I have is to bring up the new server in the domain, promote it, setup dhcp, dns, all software, sharepoint, data transfer, logon scripts, etc... - the first approach seems much easier and wouldn't mind testing a DRP situation.

Thanks,
John

Hello john woods,

Thank you for your post and please accept my apologies for the delay. I will definitely help you with this.

I recommend creating a bootable CD created with our software and performing a recovery with it. During the recovery process you can resize your partitions. We have this article in our Knowledge Base that covers this process in great detail.

Please let me know if you have additional questions. Thank you.
