converting to VM of Linux machine fails

Hello,
we convert our machines to a VM (VM type: VMware Workstation) after the full backup.
It works with Windows 2003 servers but it fails on Linux servers (Ubuntu 8.04) after ca. 20% of conversion (see attachment).
Our environment: ABR10 version 10.0.12705 on Windows Server 2003 R2 (x64, SP2, german).
Has anyone a solution for this?

Hello,
thank you for your quick answer. This clarifies a lot.
So Linux must have the appropriate mass storage drivers for vmware already included to run on the ESX host without universal restore.
