'Create snapshots without VSS'. What doesn't get backed up?
I'm trying out Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 for an industrial application. The PC is running SQLExpress 2008 and runs continuously.
I've spent a happy few hours trying to resolve 'Backup Fails with "Failed to create volume snapshot"' error. I've registered all the dlls as suggested in one of the KB articles and set the registry setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\Settings\DiskManager = 1. Still no success.
I'm now running with VSS turned off. The backup is running OK. What will be missing from the backup?
Thanks.

Thanks dev-anon.
No, I'd rather not risk interfering with the process. I can cover the SQLExpress backup with a separate SqlBackupAndFtp (http://sqlbackupandftp.com) which uses the SQL engine to do the work. Microsoft state that the backup can be done while the DB is online. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175477.aspx.
Thanks again.
