Exchange 2007 - proper way to backup?

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I have a new exchange 2007 box that needs backed up. We have:

- ABR 10 Server for Windows (with universal restore)
- Acronis Recover for MS Exchange Srvr

I have the PDF manuals printed out and will be reading them, but I would like to correctly backup the server before putting in a new backup plan.

So, what is the proper way to backup this server? Some basic do's & don'ts? What should I backup and what shouldn't be backed up?

Any advice greatly appreciated,
Rob

Hello Rob,

Thank you for using Acronis Corporate Products

Actually, I don't see any limitations in using Acronis software on the described system. You should backup the entire system by means of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 Server for Windows and you should backup the Microsoft Exchange database with Acronis Recovery for Exchange.

There is one thing that you should know. If you run Microsoft Exchange on an Active Directory server, you can experience an issue in migrating the system to dissimilar hardware. This issue after the recovery and replication with other Domain Controllers is usually caused by Update Sequence Number (USN) rollback. In particular, because AD is a distributed system with time-expiring elements.

Please see this article on how to transfer Active Directory with domain controller to dissimilar hardware using Acronis Universal Restore.

Thank you.
