Idiots Guide to Tape Backups

Thread needs solution

Hi All.

I am new here so apologies if this has been posted before.

I have only just started using Acronis and need to set up a backup to tape.

Currently I have a server backing up to a NAS over night and need set up a new job to backup the night job to tape during the day (if that makes sense) so it can be taken off site.

Can someone provide me with an idiots guide on backing up to tape?

The tape drive is a singe device (HP LTO Ultrium-3) and not a library

Hello Angry Sys Admin
Backing up to a single tape device is rather simple: http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11.5/index.html#14309.h…
What you are trying to do, is usually called D2D2T, that is, transferring an already created backup from a disk storage to a tape. This scenario looks very much like this: http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11.5/index.html#12280.h…
You can set up either moving backups to a tape (=copy to tape+delete from NAS) or replicating them (just copy). But Acronis does these operations right after the backup job is completed.
