Imaging PC's

Thread needs solution

I have ABR 10 AW installed with a Universal Resotre Licesne. I am currently testing to see if an image of an old PC can be copied to a new PC for use in the business. I have created a backup of the old PC but do not know how to burn this to USB/Disk to do a restore on a new PC. There is no option when creating a bootable media to use this image?

Hello Andrew,

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us. I understand your concern, and will be glad to shed the light to the situation.

You can surely create a bootable media within the Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation and restore the image to the dissimilar hardware. Below I will provide you with the instructions, but before we proceed I'd like to warn you that according to the Acronis License Policy you will need one license for one computer your are going to backup or restore. Thus in case you're restoring the image onto the another machine, you will need 1 additional license for the target computer, and the license of Acronis Universal Restore will be used after the recovery. Thus next time you will need to recover the image to another machine, you will need new Acronis Universal Restore and ABR AW serial keys.

In order to create a bootable media, please go the main Menu of the product, select "Tools -> Create Bootable Rescue Media". You can find more details in the User's Guide, chapter 6.10 Bootable media, p.251.

Before restoring the backup to a new computer with dissimilar hardware please ensure the following:

  • The backup contains a supported Windows operating system. See Acronis Universal Restore;
  • You have drivers for the hard disk drive controller or chipset drivers for the new computer. These drivers are critical for booting the operating system. You can download the drivers for your motherboard on the Vendor's web-site. Please note, if you downloaded the drivers in *.exe, *.cab, *.zip format, you should extract them first. The driver files should have *.inf, *.sys or *.oem extensions.

    (!) The product does not support or install plug and play drivers.

Please follow this Acronis Universal Restore Guide with step-by-step instructions in order to successfully restore the image. In general, you will need to boot from the CD, specify the backup, the location of the drivers and the target location. Feel free to ask us in case there's something confusing - we will be glad to help.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
