Incremental backup after deleting last full backup
Hi,
I have a start full backup and after that incremental backup. Now the Acronis backup system decided by it self to perform a full backup that I would like to get rid of. So, my question is:
what happens if I delete the last full backup with Acronis tool, will the incremental backup continue from the last incremental backup that was created before the full backup or not?

Hi,
nice to know and it will save me some money not having to expand my NAS.
The Acronis performed a full backup suddenly athough my settings where incremental, I checked it after i discover that a full backup has been performed with three files on the same day as a result, one was 38.7Mb the second 122.07Gb and the last 54.64Mb. The setting was all the time set for incremental, and I'm sure on that.
Tried to get some help from the support but to be honest, the support is not one of the best if you whant to put it in a gentle way. That was my second ticket and I will not try that again.
Anyhow, enough of whining. Thank's for your help.

Hello Dag!
Thanks for the details. Happens you raised this topic under another product Acronis backup 10 ( a non supported product ). I see there are tickets for the Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, but they are closed.
I am sorry the support wasn't what you expected. I can raise a new ticket and inform our support to prioritize it. Please let me know if you are available to proceed with this.
Thanks.

Hi again and sorry for bothering you again with my problems that I believed was solved.
I did a "Clean up versions" and removed the full backup then I did a "Add existing backup" and picked the last of the incremental backups. Everything looks nice but ...
When I start backup I get the error message that the backup-file I removed with Clean up can't be found and I can't find anywhere how to change that.
In my world is a erased backup erased but not in this case it is not.

Hello Dag!
Thanks for the reply.
Did you applied the instructions of this user-guide: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ABR10/index.html#28…?
Because If full backup is selected, all depended incremental backups are selected as well.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I have a full backup.
Before the clean It looked something like this:
- Full backup 1
- Incremental 1
- Incremental 2
- Incremental 3
- ......
- ,,,,,,
- Incremental 10
- Full backup 2
I removed the Full backup 2 with clean
Then I "Add a existing backup" by selecting Incremental 10.
Now when I start the backup I get an error message saying that Fullbackup 2 cant' be found. Ofcource it cant' be found I have remoeved it.

Hello.
Could you please confirm to me how you did the cleanup? With what tool? Because this program doesn't have any tool to clean backup apart the console or manually? If you did it manually the file is corrupt because the software doesn't support that. The backup slices must be deleted just in the console.
That error also suggests you deleted a full backup instead of an incremental, please review that. This means that the chain doesn't have any full backup to be continued.
It seems that the removal of Full backup 2 has caused a disruption in the incremental backup chain, leading to the error message you are receiving when attempting to start the backup.
To resolve this issue, we recommend creating a new full backup and starting a new incremental backup chain. This will ensure that all backups are linked correctly, and the backup process will be smooth and error-free.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I removed the full backup at the end of the chain with the tool provided in Acronis, NOT manually.
I still have a full backup in the beginning of the chain, in my example above named "Full backup 1".
In the beginning of this thread I also specially asked if it was ok to delete the last full backup:
My question was:
"what happens if I delete the last full backup with Acronis tool, will the incremental backup continue from the last incremental backup that was created before the full backup or not?"
and got following answer:
"You can delete the backup files as long as you do it in the backup console."
What you are saying now, is that it is not safe to delete backup with or without the tool. If I create a new full backup, why should it work then, will I not get the same error since my deleted backup, which is asked for, still not is there.
I will also point out that the last backup was created in spite of the setting only incremental and the only help I got from your support was to repair the software and see if happens again.
I also found on this forum an explanation of how to delete a backup and get Acronis to catch up on the previous incremental backup. The trick was to add the last incremental file as a backup with the tool.
Sorry for being a bit grumpy but the whole idea was to save space on my NAS.

Hello Dag,
I wanted to reach out to you because I believe there may have been a misunderstanding in our previous thread. The advice we provided, as well as the manual, pertains to Acronis Backup 10-11, which was the product you initially raised a query about. However, later in the thread, you specified that the issue was related to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, which is a completely different product with a different architecture.
If you have already performed a cleanup with our official tools and are still experiencing errors, I would recommend that you raise a ticket with our support team. This behavior is not expected, and something may not be functioning correctly. Please rest assured that our tools are safe, and if anything is failing, we need to troubleshoot the issue.
If you encounter any issues with our support, please let me know, and I will ensure that you receive the assistance you need.
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing back from you.
