Lost Outlook-adresses

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I use Acronis True Image 8 OEM. Lately I had to reinstall Window's XP. I can find the Outlook-adresses of the other users (*.wab files) and Favorites as well. But the *.wab file and Favorites of myself, mainuser, are gone. File "User" is not accessable and seems to be emty. I, as 'mainuser' only used to use a password for Windows XP.

Can it be that the file "user" in "documents and settings" has never been saved, becouse of this Windows-password? And if it has been saved, how can I recover it?

Regards,
Albert

Hi Albert. Your question is a little confusing. You had two users on the XP Machine? You were logging in as "Mainuser" and the other people were logging is as "user"?

How did you "Re-Install" XP? Did you do a "Repair Install" or did you format the hard drive and install from ground zero?

It might just be a simple matter of you not having rights to the "User" folder but without a little more detail it will be hard to tell...

Hi Jim,

Your right, there are 3 users, me my wife and my daughter. My wife and daughters files are saved in the Image. Mine not. I used a password to log in Windows XP, my wife and daughter did not.
There are two partitions: C: and D: . Content on part. D: is still there (documents) Content of part. C: is gone (settings).
I explored the Image created by Acronis. My wife and daughters settings are still there (.wab file and Favorites). Mine are not.
I'm afraid to restore the entire Image because I had to buy a second Windows-licence because the licence I had was also used on my son's computer (pfff....).
In the explored Image I can open the girls' folder, but I can not open my folder. Before the computer crasched there were no problems with rights, every folder was accessable.

Jim, I hope I made things clearer, feel free to ask if not.

Regards,
Albert.

Oh. So you have not done the restore yet correct? These missing folders are missing from the backup archive?

That could be a real problem. You using a password and your wife and daughter not shouldn't have affected anything. I can only think of two possibe reasons something like that would happen. Either your files were not selected for backup or you didn't have the rights to back up your files (which is unlikely).

Version 8 goes way, way back. Do you just have the one backup or did you make a second or third somewhere else. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think the backup you have was complete and there just isn't much you're going to be able to do about it at this point. Are you sure you are looking under the right profile? Some computer manufacturers will us "owner" for the first profile.

Yes indeed, I keep two backups, the last one and the one before. Both Images are empty. I can't imagine that a complete Restore of the entire Image brings the data back. I agree that there is not much I can do to retreive the lost data but the main question is: how could this happen. If it is a bug in version 8 one would expect many posts about such situation, and a repair tool, or at least a warning. Never the less, nothing can be done about it now. I have to find another way to back up, and test it first......

Thanks Jim,

Albert
