Move Acronis databases

Thread needs solution

We installed Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 with a local sql express. Now we want to move the databases of acronis to an instance of sql 2008.
What we have to do?

Kind regards

Hello Gerhard Weber,

Thank you very much for your post. I will definitely help you with your question.

If I understood you correctly, your plan is to migrate the data from SQL express to MS SQL 2008. The best way to achieve this, however, this has not been tested and I only recommend it as a workaround, would be to do the following.

Using native SQL tools, backup your SQL Express database and then restore it to the MS SQL 2008.

After that, please uninstall the Acronis Management Server. Re-install it and during the installation, please select the option to keep existing databases. You may have to press next a few times.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello Anton,

i have a little different situation. I'd like to move the database to another sql server.

Configuration now:
server1:
-------------------------
server1: B&R 10 Management Server, Storage Node, Mgmt Console, License Server, PXE Server
server2: ms sql express 2005

Configuration later:
-------------------------
everything on server1

My planned first Steps are:
1. backup db on server2
2. installing the sql server on server1
3. recover the database on server1

Can you help me with the other steps?
My other Questions are:
-which SQL Users are needed?
-we configured the acronis recovery for exchange on our exchange server. ist this server also connected to the sql-srv?

thanks a lot for reply and help!!!

Better Late then never I guess.
This is what we did and it seems to work fine with no issues as of yet.
NOTE: We made sure that the build of the managment server was the exact same for the uninstall and reinstall.

1. Backed up all SQL 2005 databases from instance on originating server
2. Stop all SQL 2005 Database and management server service.
3. Copy the following MDF’s from the SQL 2005 instance directory to a safe location (c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1) (or replace with your instance) if you have 32 bit drop the (x86)
a. Acronis_cms.mdf and ldf
b. Acronis_cms_archives.mdf and ldf
c. Acronis_cms_cards.mdf and ldf
d. Acronis_cms_logs.mdf and ldf
e. Acronis_cms_stats.mdf and ldf
f. Acronis_reports.mdf and ldf
4. Uninstall Acronis Management Server.
5. Install Acronis Management server.
a. Defaults – Supply domain credentials – Point to your new SQL server for database – point to your new SQL reports server. We have both the same so we point to the same place.
6. This will create all new databases.
7. Stop the Acronis Management server.
8. Detach all newly created databases.
9. Attach all previously backed up database.
10. Start Acronis Management Server again.
11. Logon and enjoy your migrated Acronis Management Server.

NOTE: We didn't use Centralized Vaults so you may have to recreate these.
