Problems restoring using Acronis Universal Restore

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Hope you can help. I have created an image of my Dell server using Acronis Backup and Recovery 10. I am now trying to restore that image using the universal restore in the bootable media to a HP Proliant DL380 server that has a Smart Array 5i controller. When trying this Acronis hangs at the the "Reading all physical volumes - This may take a while.." section and goes no further.
I have tried to restore to a dell server and it works fine using the same bootable media. Is there any issue using Universal restore with the Smart Array 5i controller?

Hi Aron,
When attempting to restore to an almost quite similar material machine, you're likely to succeed with or without Universal Restore.
On the other hand, when your attempts go toward a machine with dissimilar material, then you need Universal Restore.
And when you use UR, you have to retrieve and stock the drivers for the chipset or the hard drive controller( in the extracted format),from the target machine and point at them when using the Universal Restore process.

Is it what you did?

Hi Montreal,
I am new for using the Acronis 10 and I am going to do the backup and restore on "Existing HP Proliant G3 server" to new HP DL380 G7 server and I quite concern about the Hard Disk controller may cause impact.

Could you please let me know where exactly and format / method I can insert the correct driver under Acronis 10 for the said HP DL380 G7 server ?

Hello all!

Thank you for your comments! Babac, thank you for your assistance!

Aron, it's hard to say for sure what caused the issue due to the lack of investigation information, but I'd advise you to download the latest bootable media, burn it onto the CD and check whether the issue persists. This media is constantly updated and contains the latest drivers, so it may help to resolve the issue.

Dear Dominic, in case you're going to restore onto the dissimilar hardware, you will need Acronis Universal Restore. Acronis Universal Restore is a special add-on for corporate versions that allows you to restore your images to dissimilar hardware. Please check this Acronis Universal Restore Guide, it contains step by step instructions and all the information that will be useful during the recovery.
