Question re Boot Media x86 & x64 options

Thread needs solution

I'm using ABR 10.0 build 13544 on a XP X86 pc.
I do regular backups and fortunately have not yet had to do a recovery.

I decided to make a bootable cd and noticed, in the Media Builder options, there was no option to add x86 and x64 support. Although, online, I have seen tutorials for V 11.5 MB that do show those options. In what version were those options added to Media Builder?

I have a new Win 7 x64 pc and am wondering if a cd, created with V 10.0, will run successfully. (no, I haven't tried it yet, as I'm still installing programs) All the literature for V 10 states that all versions of Win 7 are supported, so I'm a little confused that those options are not present in MB.

Google results were nil. Thanks for any insight to this.

Hello Frank,

These options are related purely to the bootable media itself. It is the bootable media that will contain 32 or 64-bit binaries.

So your 32-bit bootable media will restore both 32 and 64-bit Windows systems. A new 11.5 64-bit booable media will also work with both types of operating systems.

That said, the 32 bit media will not work correctly with the UEFI boot process and Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 does not support UEFI.

If your new machine boots using UEFI (again, regardless of the OS installed), you will either have to upgrade or switch your motherboard to a BIOS boot type (most motherboards should have the option to switch between BIOS and UEFI).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Igor for the informative response!

Yes, I'm aware that the binary options are purely related to the bootable media. That's what prompted my question, because the options were NOT in the V10 Media builder process.

I was not aware that 32 bit media would backup/restore a Win 7 64bit os. Plus, it didn't occur to me at all that UEFI was part of the picture. I'll check my new PC and see if it's a Bios or UEFI boot (or if it's selectable). PC is a HP workstation Z440.

Shall I assume that V 11.5 is the first to support UEFI?

Hello Frank,

The V10 Media Builder does not and will not include the option to create 64-bit media (because it is no longer updated).

UEFI support was added in version 11, but definitely go with 11.5 if you plan to upgrade in the future.

Thanks Igor....will do.

I understand that V10 doesn't, and will not, create 64 bit media. If I'm reading your posts correctly though, a NON UEFI Windows 7 64 bit os can be backed up by a V10 32 bit cd ? Turns out my Win 7 64 os is on a Bios pc, not UEFI.

Hello Frank,

There shouldn't be a problem then as this is a supported configuration in V10.
