Recovery of Shared Folders behavior

Thread needs solution

I am trying to backup shared folders on a server box and recover them to new hardware. It seems that my recovered image loses all share permissions when those folders are restored to another box.
Is there any way to keep the share permissions in place when I recover to a new box with a newer operation system? Would this concept even work if I recovered to the same version of the OS on a different box or is there something going on with SID changes resulting from the OS change?

Hello Eric Lake,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

If you are talking about shared folders on a server box, you mean a separate NAS device or a server machine with a Windows server operating system?

If on this server no Acronis agent is installed, you only can perform a file-/folder-backup. As result you get the files and folders chosen, but of course no permissions, setup for the network share. The network share is provided by the operating system and is not stored as property of a folder.

As result you can restore this files or folders to another machine, but the network share you need to establish manually.

Only if you have installed an Acronis agent and running a complete partition or disk backup, you can recover this using Acronis Universal Restore to dissimilar hardware.

Find more details for running Acronis Universal Restore in this article from our knowledge base. More detailed article (but for 11.5) you will find here.

If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
