remote agent installation failed

Thread needs solution

Hi,
we are using ABR10 in a active directory. On some machines, the remote agent installation failes, on some machines it works. The only message if it failed is "Installation fehlgeschlagen" (in german) wich means: installation failed. We cannot find more information about the problem, it comes immediately. When we start the connection check one step before then we get "Verbindung fehlgeschlagen" wich means "connection failed".
All clients are running Windows XP SP2 or SP3 in german, the server is running under windows2003 and the build number is 10.0.11133. Windows firewall is disabled and for testing we stopped TrendMicro Officescan.
What can we do to make the remote install work on all machines?

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

First of all, I would like to mention that we have just officially updated our Acronis Backup & Recovery line of products to the new build under the number of 11345. It's more than just an ordinary patch - when working on this update we focused on bringing in new features while another team worked on patching the issues reported to us by our customers. After that to perform the remote installation please check the following settings:

1) Make sure that the following options are Enabled/Disabled on the Agent machine, i.e. the computer you are installing the Acronis Backup & Recovery Agent to:

NOTE: Depending on what Windows version your Agent machine is running, either or both of the below options may not be there.

- The Control panel -> Folder options -> View -> Use simple file sharing option must be Disabled

- The Control panel -> Windows Firewall -> Exceptions -> File and Printer Sharing option must be Enabled

2) Make sure to use a user profile that has the Administrator and Backup Operator rights on the target computer for remote installation of the Acronis Backup & Recovery Agent and/or establishing a connection to the already installed Acronis Backup & Recovery Agent.

3) Whenever the program prompts you for user credentials, make sure to always specify the username in the form of computer name\username for local user profiles or domain name\username if you are using a domain Administrator account.

4) Try specifying the IP address of the target computer instead of its DNS name when trying to perform a remote installation of the Acronis Backup & Recovery Agent.

If the IP address works and the DNS name doesn't, that means the computer name can't be resolved properly and you should double-check if your DNS server is configured properly.

5) Don't forget to disable temporary your Firewall. Or just make sure that Firewall is set up properly. The components of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 use the following ports/addresses for communications.

- TCP port: 9876;

- TCP port: 25001 for remote installation.

If this doesn't help, please obtain msi log file and attach to your next post. This file is available at the bottom of the program window that appears after the installation failure. This information will help me to investigate the issue thoroughly and provide you with a possible solution. I'm having problem while installing the agent ABR10 remotely.
I installed ABR10 on my PDC AD server W2k3, and i want to install the agent on my file server remotely, but always fail.
could you tell me how to solve this problem?? (log attached).

Let me help you with this problem.

Basing on the log provided your serial number could not be validated. Can you make sure you have installed license server and added serial number to it? I suggest you to download Installation Guide which describes step-by-step installation of the product you have. It is available here.
