Replaced laptop HDD --- need to worry about Master boot record?

Thread needs solution

Hey guys,

I just replaced a clicking HDD in my laptop. I backed up three partitions from my old HDD (C: OS, D: Programs, E: User Data). I just restored my C/OS and D/Programs to the new HDD and I'm booted up and everything seems fine.

But Acronis has this MBR/Master Boot Record option in the restore menu wizard. Do I need to worry about that? Can anyone explain when and why I would need to back up or restore that 'partition'?

Thanks,

Fitz

Hello Fitz!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad you joined us! I understand your concern and will be glad to shed the light to the situation.

I 'm glad to assure you that there is nothing to worry about. Simply saying MBR is responsible for booting the machine from the correct drive and OS. It has the record from which disk and sector (where the OS is located) to boot, thus in case you have successfully started your machine - you already have MBR correctly configured.

You can find more information about MBR in this article.
