Restore from USB External HDD

Thread needs solution

I've been able to do this fine until recently. When I attempt the PC simply reboots back into Vista.
Have tried booting from the Acronis boot CD I made during installation but with the same results - in fact the USB HDD wasn't even listed in the folder tree as it has been previously.
In the end I copied the tib file to an internal HDD partition and was able to restore from there.
Any ideas why the USB drive has become like this.

Thanks

Dave

When you say, "I've been able to do this fine until recently", was this with the boot CD?
You said you tried booting from the boot CD, but with the same results. Does this mean the CD doesn't boot at all? If so, then you need to change the boot priority in the Bios so the CD drive is ahead of the hard drive.

If the CD is booting but doesn't see the usb drive it is because the cd runs off Linux and it doesn't have the drivers for your particular external enclosure chipset. What version and build number of True Image are you using?

Hello David and DwnNDrty!

Thank you for your question and many thanks to DwnNDrty for his valuable comment.

Dear David, unfortunately due to the lack of information it is difficult to provide you with the answer, so I would appreciate if you could kindly specify me the details of the scenario you would like to proceed and the exact sequence of actions that lead to the problem you report, so that we can reproduce it?

As kindly mentioned DwnNDrty, it looks like the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media you own doesn't recognize the hard drive properly, so I would like to provide you with the newer one, please check your messages for the link with the instructions.

I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us posted regarding the case, and should you have any questions - do not hesitate to leave a comment here, we will be glad to assist.

Thank you!
