SBS2003 UR restore to Dell R710 prec 6/i locks at login screen

Thread needs solution

I am attempting to restore my SBS2003 to a dell R710. I get all the way to the login screen and then the system locks completely. No mouse, keyboard or disk activity. I have added the Perc and chipset drivers and tried several images.

Any thoughts on why or how to resolve this issue?

This issue is not directly related to the algorithms of Acronis Universal Restore and is rather specific to some Windows configurations and hardware specifics. I'd the same problem with dell servers.

What i've done:

1. try booting windows in safe mode.
2. it'll probably work, keyboard and mouse will be OK.

3. Have a look in device manager and wait until windows "find" drivers (up to 10 minutes).

4. reboot in "normal" mode.

5. your server will boot normaly, and you should have to wait (sometimes up to 10 minutes) while windows discover all devices (especially USB controlers that allows you to use keyboard / mouse).

6. sometimes, you have to restart 2 or 3 times to discover all drivers.

When it happened to me, mouse cursor was moving and then suddenly "freezes" as if the server hangs (on the logon splash) ... but after a while, everything goes OK.

Hi Steve. I have had this happen to me on several server clones. One thing I have found that helps is to go in to the BIOS of the new server and disable the Execute Bit Disable setting on the processor until it gets up and running.
