Sector by sector image - restore to different drive

Hi,

I want to make image of hdd containing unsupported file system. I suppose sector by sector method is the only way to go, right ? If so, here is my question: after making sector by sector backup, is it possible to restore the image to different hdd with different geometry (cylinders, heads etc.) and size ?
