Select Partitions for VM Backups

Thread needs solution

When backing up VMs by Acronis vApp, only the full VM can be selected.
It would be a great advantage, if single Disk could be selected, like it can be done on Agent installed Systems.

Is there any intention to implement this option?
Currently this wouldn't be difficult to realize, expecially when each Partition is a sperate vmdk.

Thank you

Hello Cirquent BIS-ITSM,

Thank you for posting your question. I will be happy to assist you.

You can definitely select a single disk when you are using Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Virtual Edition. I would recommend to check page 47 in our user guide for additional information.

For example, if you are creating a backup policy: Under what to back up, in items to back up selection rules, click change and select [All volumes] from the drop-down list. The [All volumes] selection rule means backing up all volumes on machines running Windows.

If you are creating a backup plan: 5. Under What to back up, in Source type you can select volumes of virtual machines.

You can also take a look on page 15 of our quick start-up guide for the virtual edition.

I have also attached a screenshot to my post that shows this option.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

Dear Moderator,
can you tell me the advantage of central managed policies when you have to create individual backup plans?

As you know it is not possible to backup individual Volumes like [System] within a backup policy for virtual machines, like you can do for physical!

Thats what I ask for, to implement this functionality within the central policy, to be able for grouping targets, to get rid to manage lokal Backup plans on the vAPP for individual VMs!

Thank you

Hello BIS-ITSM,

Thank you for your reply. I would really appreciate if you can provide us with additional information regarding this. Also, I would like to make sure that you are using the latest build of our software. Can you create screenshots of this, so that I can have a better picture of what is happening at your end.

The advantage of backup policies is that, you can apply 1 setting to multiple machines. You can read more about this here.

Have you tried providing the drive letter [C:] instead of [System]?

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Dear Anton,

the online Help (help.chm) of the latest build says for 'Volumes to back up selection rules' (Attachement):
'Note: When backing up virtual machines by using Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Agent for ESX/ESXi, [All Volumes] is the only template that can be used.'

now I configured a central Backup policy to use [All Volumes] for a Windows VM, and it worked!
Well you were right with your statement, thank you so far.

Please update the Online Help.
