TI 11.0 - Backup File Size

Thread needs solution

So I have a laptop with 16GB used out of an 80GB hard drive.  I used TI Home 11.0 to backup the drive to a USB external drive. I did not select the 'sector by sector' backup. The resulting files were 4GB (2) and 256KB(1). Those .tib files are about 1/2 the size of what windows reports as used space on the drive. How is that possible? I can see compression accounting for a small percentage of file size reduction, but 50%?

The backup file size is within the ballpark of being correct. Normally, the compressed file will be about 60-70% of the used space. The backup file contains only a place holder (not the actual file)  for files such as the
hiberfil.sys  and  pagefile.sys
Text files can be highly compressed whereas video or audio files are already compressed and will be saved by TrueImage at almost their same size.

It does sound like your file has a normal size backup file but you can repeat the backup making sure that the disk option is checked for your backup so that your backup includes all partitions (hidden & diagnostic) on your system disk.

Thanks for the reply. I am shocked that file compression has such a profound effect on size of the backups. Good to know that it seems normal though. I did try to run through the backup twice and the entire disk option was selected both times. I also backed up another laptop and saw basically the same results. The total size of the backed up .tib files was half that of the used space on the drive as reported by windows.
