Wanting to "clone" my primary disk.

Thread needs solution

I’ve got a notebook computer (W520) with 2 drive bays (SATA, 2.5”).

Drive 1 is 250GB and has my windows7 and acronis advanced workstation backup and restore on it
Drive 2 is 1024GB and is just data

I have a new 300GB drive that I want to be an image of the original Drive1 250GB, then I want to use it as my boot drive like the current Drive1.

How can I do this? I don’t have any USB drives here but I do have a DVD drive. Last time I tried to boot an acronis recovery cd on it, it would not find the SATA drives in the Lenovo w520, probably because it’s a new computer with new sandybridge drivers.

Did you try to boot it with noapic parameter as in
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/10950#comment-31564 (the second part about media with different bootloader, afaik, may be ignored as it is not available now)
Or build WinPE-based media with necessary drivers, or find another computer and plug the drives there just to clone them (I prefer backup-recover instead of direct cloning, like it is recommended for TI Home)
