Automatic cleanup of backups when disk has low space
Hi,
Is it possible for vmProtect to automatically cleanup backups when the appliance disk has low space or is full? For regular production machine backups, I'd rather that old backups be deleted as necessary so that new ones can be taken. Keeping old data as per retention rules is nice, but having backups of new data is more important.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Vasily,
I should have been more clear. I meant the backup destinations that are locally attached to the appliance. For example, since the appliance can only make 2TB archive files, it would be nice if it could automatically clean up old recovery points if required for a new backup, regardless of the retention rules.
Taking it a step further, maybe if Acronis is unable to expand the archive, it performs cleanup? This option could be a separate choice so that the user understands what it means and chooses to enable it.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Probably I still don't completely understand your concern, but the recovery points from the archive can be deleted either automatically (as part of backup task) or manually (from View->Recovery Points) at the same time the archive file physical size will not be reduced, but newer backups will not increase the size of the archive file, since cleaning up recovery points would mean cleaning up free space _within_ the archive file (as explained in the user guide link I've given above).
The situation you described if I correctly understood is as follows: the backup archive reached max 2TB, the retention rules cleaned up some recovery points, but at the same time new incremental backups into this archive require more space than was cleaned up and therefore backup fails. It should be a quite rare case and if retention rules are set up properly to maintain archive size within 2TB then there should be no such problem.
P.S. also FYI: you can manage the actual archive files via WinSCP connected to appliance (see instructions on WinSCP connection in http://kb.acronis.com/content/36100 in troubleshooting section). The local storages are mounted to /local_storage folder in root.
Thank you.
