Using always incremental with ftp/sftp

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i´m using vmprotect 8 in latest built.
Is it possible to use always incremental backup mode with ftp/sftp. When i try to configure
a backup with this options the "always incremental" mode is greyed out. Only way to activate
is using Network share or local storage.

We want to back up our vmware infrastructure via sftp to a wan Location. Our Goal is to use always incremental for having not as much traffic on wan as it uses cbt.

Any ideas or only Marketing bla bla from Acronis?

Regards,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The "always incremental" archive format is not supported on sFTP/FTP types of storage due to the specifics of this format. In fact this format is similar to file system within a file and thus requires random access within the file which is limited on sFTP/FTP.

Not sure if I correctly understood the reasoning for why you need "always incremental" format on your WAN location, but the amount of traffic is not dependent on the archive format and will be the same as in case your WAN archive is "legacy" one instead of "always incremental". The factors which affect the traffic are: 1) CBT usage 2) Compression level 3) Amount of changes since the previous backup. As you can see the archive type is among these factors :)

Thank you.
