VM Name after restore backup
Hi there people,
I have a Vsphere 5 and Vcenter with 2 hosts on it. Also I have vmprotect 8 in order to take backup. Recently I wanted to restore a VM machine but without delete the old one (it does not matter why). When I try to restore the vm I had 2 choices, first to overwrite the old vm and second to give vmprotect a name with format <> etc “VM_original_2011.05.25" as it says in help. When I try to restore with the second choice I realize that the format was the "original_name Δευτέρα, 17 Ιουνίου 2013" in greece. The problem is than if a want to make a job from SSH console the file name is in symbols. My first question is why it gives that name instead “VM_original_2011.05.25" and the second if I want to change it (both display name and files) how can I do it. I look forward for a reply.
Thanks in advance
Nikos

Hello Anna,
first of all I want to thank you for your reply (it was very useful). According to your
reply I have two questions. First question is how can I restore vm's in English with
format _Saturday, 15 June 2013.vmdk. What I mean is, in order to restore
a vm in English all I have to do is remove the Greek language and leave ONLY English?
My second question is why it uses the above format _Saturday, 15 June 2013.vmdk
in Greece or in English when in help topics it says that the format is “VM_original_2011.05.25”?
I give you the help information below and a print screen file attachment. If the format was like this “VM_original_2011.05.25” I wouldn' t have problem run commands from ESXi console. Lastly I try to remove every greek setting from my server (where vmprotect is installed ) and reboot but still the file names are _Σάββατο, 15 Ιούνιου 2013.vmdk. I also did that to the client where I run vmprotect from IE but still nothing, the format is in greece.
Thanks in advance
Nikos
Overwrite confirmation pop-up
This choice defines the restored virtual machines naming behavior.
If you choose to Overwrite VMs, then the existing virtual machines will be overwritten with the restored ones. Note that if the existing machines are running, then for successful recovery you should either stop them manually or check the option to Power off target VMs when starting recovery in the recovery options.
Help text of VMProtect 8
If you choose Create VMs with different names, then the restored VMs will be named using the following convention:
“[Original_VM_name]_DATE”
where “Original_VM_name” is the initial name of the restored virtual machine, and DATE is the current date. For example if the restored VM was called “VM_original” then after recovery it will be named “VM_original_2011.05.25”.

Hi Nikos,
The selection of the time/date format is done depending on the OS locale where you have vmProtect installed, so even if you remove the Greece language from Windows language settings - it will not change the Windows locale to English and the format of the automatically generated new name for VMs will remain the same. Also note that renaming the .vmdk files manually is not safe and it's not something that should be done.
If you want to have English format for the automatically generated VM name then the easiest way would be to deploy vmProtect Virtual Appliance and keep using it (instead of Windows Agent) at least for recovery purposes. Another option is to get English Windows (natively English) installed anew.
P.S. I've also thought about the MUI language packs for Windows which allows you to change language, though at least in my personal experience using MUI packs is not really working well and I'm not sure whether it will properly change the locale settings or not.
Thank you.

Tried vmProtect on my end. It seemed to have fixed the issue for me. I just want to let everyone know.
