vmprotect9 jobs suddenly fail

Thread needs solution

Hello,

every night i'm saving snapshots of 2 VMs to a NAS storage.

The backup routine worked for over 2 months everyday without any problems.

But then i got this error messages (vmp9 german version, ESXi5.1U1):

Task 'TK-2-NAS' fehlgeschlagen: 'Erstellen eines Backups fehlgeschlagen.

The error is the same for both VMs and both backup jobs.

I tried a restart of the affected VMs and the vmprotect agent VM. No success.

The strange thing is, on some days the last weeks, the job worked, but then the following
days it failed again (1 or 2 jobs worked in ca. 14 days)

can anybody help?

thanks

Hi,

The problem is in fact related to vCenter/ESXi host which doesn't respond to HTTP requests. During the backup job certain files (the small configuration files) are downloaded from the datastore over HTTP connection which is provided by vCenter/ESXi host. Typically restart of vCenter should help or if it doesn't then you should check the web datastore browser: open https://192.168.0.206:443/folder URL in internet browser and try to download some files from the TK-Anlage folder - at the time when backup fails these attempts should fail too.

One possible workaround is to register individual ESXi host instead of vCenter under Configure->ESXi hosts - the ESXi hosts are rarely affected by this problem (it's typical for vCenter connection only).

Thank you.
