Acrocmd.exe broken since Version 12!

Thread needs solution

Since version 12 the acrocmd.exe is nearly not usable... It does only work for locally created plans and tasks (list tasks, list plans).

Even if the plans are managed by an AMS it can simply happen that jobs are not displayed with the flag --service=ams.

To go even further, the commands for getting results from the appliance --service=mms --host=applicanceIP --credentials are not working properly...

Also the list vms command can diplay faulty data ...

I received the information, that acrocmd.exe was forgotten to update to the new internal mechanism of the 12/12.5 versions and we need to wait for update 2.. But when will this come out? This problem exists for all customers and almost 1 year has passed since the problem was detected...

Hi

Problem with getting backup plans from AMS is fixed in the Update 2 which will be released in the end of this year (current plan - November).

We will reproduce other problems ("plans from appliance", "list vms") in our QA lab and fix in the future updates (probably in Update 2).

Thank you for answer. Thats great to hear :) I really hope the changes make it into update 2 (because a lot of customers focusing on monitoring rely on this feature)

Is the CLI patch still planned for update 2 and End of November? Any update on this ?

Thank you :)

Hi

I just checked - on the latest Update 2 build "list plans" for AMS is working, also commands "list plans" and "list vms" for appliance are working too.

Update 2 will be released in early December (~3 weeks from now).

Hi Ramil Yusupov,

could you please give us an update, if we really can expect Update 2 within the next week?

I got information from your technical support that they expect this Update in Q1/2018.

After this problem is now present for more than a year it would be pretty annoying to wait so much longer.

Thank You!

Hi

Current plan is to release Update 2 on next week.

Hi

We decided to polish Update 2 a little bit more.  Next target date - end of next week.

Hi,

it seems that you didn't polish it enough.
I've just updated 1 Acronis Backup Installation to the new Build 12.5.8610 (Update 2).
I can't see any change with acrocmd. Also there's no information in the release notes about it.

"list tasks" shows on every task "not run yet" and state is idle when the backup is running.
So still no information about the backups over your CLI which means there is no automatic control of the backups possible! And that is after 1 1/2 year after the release of Version 12. This can't be so difficult!

Sorry, i'm really upset and i think we will change the backup software on future costumers.

Please prove me that i'm wrong...

Kind Regards,
Max

Max, can you provide example of command that is not working for you?

We checked today "list tasks" - it works if acrocmd is connected to the agent. If acrocmd is connected to the AMS, it does not work.

To get information from the AMS was the problem from the beginning. My ticket with this case is now open for a year!!!
And i got information over your support that this problem is fixed with Update2.

I can't use acrocmd directly with the Agent of the virtual appliance, so there is just the way over AMS.
If you can tell me another solution to control backups of VMs over acrocmd please do it.
And no, installing Agents on every VM shouldn't be the right solution.

I never had problems to get backup information directly from an agent installed on a physical machine. So wheres the improvement with this update?

So after i ran into another problem with the virtual appliance (Updating isn't working, but there's no feedback from AMS. It just writes "doing update..."), i deleted the virtual appliance and installed the Windows VMWare-Agent. Over this i get the right information with acrocmd.

So please tell me:
Why not include the same function in the virtual appliance (as it was with 11.7) and just with the windows agent?
Why does your support doesn't suggest this solution and stalls me for over a year for a solutions that still doesn't exist?

> i deleted the virtual appliance and installed the Windows VMWare-Agent. Over this i get the right information with acrocmd.

Am I right that you installed Agent for VMWare (Windows) on the Windows machine and get necessary information using acrocmd via AMS using command like this"acrocmd list tasks --host=AMS_host --credentials=AMS_user,AMS_password --service=AMS --address=machine_with_VMWare_agent"?

Can you provide the command line that worked for you and command line that is not worked for you?

With Backup 11.7 there was just the virtual appliance. And it was possible to connect directly to the appliance to control the backup tasks.

After we upgraded to Backup 12 we tried to do the same thing. So we installed the VA on every VMWare-Host (this is the standard option if you want to add a new virtual server).

There is no way to connect directly to the VA anymore. So only way is to get over the AMS, which after 1 1/2 year still delivering false information.

So now we've deinstalled the VA and installed the VMWare-Agent for Windows on the same server where AMS is running.

Still AMS doesn't deliver any information about the backup, but i can get information over acrocmd if i connect directly to the agent. (So in this case it's list plans with --service=mms)

I have to add that we did this now on our own after we have a ticket open for one year and even your "expert-support" didn't do anything except to stall us further on.

Last Info from your support is, that this problem is fixed with Update2, which should get out Q1 2018.
I didn't get any mail after Update2 is out.

Kind Regards,
Max

Acronis Backup 12.5, Update 3.1 is now available. Was the problem with AMS / acrocmd finally fixed?

Kind regards!

According to the information in our internal sources, the issue ABR-118752 (acrocmd list plans doesn't show plans when used with --service=ams option) is marked as fixed already in the Update 2.

I just did a test with one of our installations.

With list plans you just get Name,GUID, etc. about the plan. Nothing about the status of the backup.

With list tasks it is still the same problem. For every task "Last Result" = "not_run_yet".
So if you do a backup over the virtual appliance you don't have any overview about the status of the backup with acrocmd.

So no change since Version 12 got out. (more than 2 years ago?).

With new customers we're switching to Veeam now.

Kind Regards,
Max

Hello Max,

I've really sorry to know about your experience. Our RnD are working on the public Rest API functionality that will allow extracting any kinds of required information and avoiding such issues. While the functionality is under development, we can provide you with the workaround (please check your private messages, go to My account at the top of a forum page and then to Dialogs).

Hope this helps

Where is the public Rest API? This post is from November 2018 and I still cannot find anything useful or any code sample that can be shared?

I'm trying to integrate Acronis in to a suite of automation to dynamically create / assign backup and conversion plans but there is little in the product that will allow Acronis to be integrated into a wider orchestration. VEEAM has a very nice powershell integration and exposed API but lacks the Windows 7 support that Acronis has. We very soon won't need the Windows 7 support so I am wondering if it's worth banging my head against the GUI, reverse engineering the python site and sqlite, waiting for a mythical rest API or just managing with the manual GUI until we can switch to VEEAM.

Hello Brian,

the public version of API is still in development, in the meanwhile we recommend contacting Acronis support team, who can provide access to API upon request.

Hello BrianH,

thank you for posting on this forum!

Acronis RnD are working on public RestAPI functionality.

We recommend using Command-line utility and creating batch files for integration purposes.

Thanks. The command line utility is very basic and does not have the functionality we are trying to integrate. I will discuss getting access to the API with support, thanks Ekaterina
