Backup failed because the operating system removed the snapshot.

Acronis Cyber Protect
Agent version 15.0.28610
- We're getting this error for cloud backups of a 2012R2 server:
"Backup failed because the operating system removed the snapshot."
- Last cloud BU was 2/11/2022
- Every subsequent attempt has failed with the same error
- Local backups are succeeding
- I ran VSS Doctor because why not and it returned this:
(!) Disk Free Space Available
Some disks have insufficient free space. Perform a cleanup.
C:\ 115 GB of 449 GB free, Minimum storage size: 320 MB
Unassign drive letter
\\?\Volume{itwouldtakemenineyearstotypethis}\ 31 MB of 299 MB free. Minimum storage size: 32 MB (Free space is below required minimum)
Assign drive letter
- I found that to be rather jejune.
- I would be grateful for insight.

Thank you for the recommendation. Before I make a change to an RDS server, can you confirm that an insufficiently large VSS capacity could cause cloud to fail but not affect local backups?

Hello Matt,
to my understanding, there should be no difference in how we create a snapshot when using different target locations. I'd try looking at the created shadow copies after a local backup and backup to Cloud just to compare the resulting contents in the shadow storage. The command is
vssadmin list shadows
