Windows 10 for bootable media?

Thread solved

I noticed that even though I'm running Windows 11 Pro, when I create bootable media the builder says Windows 10. Is that for backward compatibility with systems that can't run Windows 11?

Jerry, I assume that you are referring to the Acronis Bootable Media Builder tool and taking the Advanced option for Windows media where the middle option refers to using the Windows ADK and says for Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10.

With the Windows ADK then you should always download and use the version that matches the OS version of the computer being used, so for Windows 11 this should be the latest version as shown below from the Microsoft download website.

The Windows ADK 10.1.25398.1 (September 2023) and the Windows PE add-on for this ADK support the following OS releases:

  • Windows 11, version 23H2 and all earlier supported versions of Windows 10 and 11
  • Windows Server 2022

The rescue media should be backwards compatible provided it is used on other computers with the same CPU architecture, i.e. 64-bit PC's.

Thanks.

It's been a long time since I made an Advance Windows-based recovery disk—probably since I was running Windows 10. I uninstalled the previous version of ADK, installed the new one, and I now have a Windows 11 recovery environment.
