Acronis deletes Windows System Restore Points

Thread needs solution

When Aronis runs, my windows restore points are deleted.

I have the Advance Acronis Subscription build number is 39703.  Windows is Win 19 21H2 build 19044.1466.

I previously uninstalled Aronis due to this issue (+/- two months ago).  I reinstalled Acronis around a week or two ago and running daily backups to cloud and local.  I forgot about this issue and today check and System Restore was on but no restore points.  I manually created two restore points, ran the cloud backup and restore points were again deleted.

I have a 2TB C drive gad System Restore set to use 2%.

I then changed system Restore to use 5% of the drive instead of 2%.

I manually created another two restore points,

I ran another cloud backup.  The restore points are still there.

I will check again later to see if they get deleted.  Or maybe setting to 5% or more is the trick.

Also, when Acronis is running a backup (cloud or local), and I check system restore, in the settings dialogue there is an exclamation point and it says

"using system protection on a drive that contains system image backups will cause other shadow copies to be deleted faster than normal"

I am not storing any image backups on the C drive.

Mike, Acronis use VSS when it runs backups. VSS is the same basic service used to create restore points. With a small size set for protection, it is not unusual for restore points to get lost after utilizing a lot of space for the backup shadow copies.

If this is a big concern, set a larger percentage of drive than 2%. Or, for backup tasks under the Advanced Options, Performance there is a setting which by default uses VSS. You could change that to use Acronis snapshot instead of VSS.
