Acronis True Image 2021 backup error 'Cannot create append manage file'

Thread needs solution

Hello all

My TrueImage 2021 has been happily doing weekly backups of my iTunes folder for the year since I bought it... until December, when it started to return error "Cannot create append manage file".

The weekly backup of another folder continues to work fine.

My PC is W10, & I haven't touched anything on it (other than add some mp3 files to iTunes through the year, incl Dec).

I can find no reference to this error on google or in searching the forums. It also seems that Acronis support of TI 2021 ended on 31/12/21. Is anyone able to tell me what this error means ?

Much obliged,

Tim

Tim, welcome to these public User Forums.

Download a copy of the MVP Assistant log viewer tool and use this to look at the logs to see if they show any issues during the operation process?

You need to be using the new log viewer tool per the link below.
MVP Assistant update for Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (Version 1.1.6.0)

If you have Disks & Partitions backups created on ATI 2020 or later using .tibx files, then look in the Backup Worker logs.

If you have Files & Folders backups using .tib files (or Disk backups from earlier versions using .tib files) or using Cloning then look in the Demon logs.

Other logs are shown by the MVP Assistant under the 'Active Logs' heading of the Log Viewer page of the Assistant.

The log files should be zipped to preserve their original file names if sharing in the forums and would need to be less than 3MB in size, otherwise you would need to share the zip file via a Cloud share service such as OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Hello Steve

(Due to the poor state of my PC, it has taken me a while to do this...) It is Files & Folders backups that are being taken by ATI2021 (on a schedule), so I have used your MVP Assistant to locate Demon log files showing the error. The problem started on 7 Dec 21. So I have attached a zip containing the log files from this date. The zip also contains the most recent log containing the failure - 17 Jan 22 - & the log of what looks like the last successful backup on 30 Nov 21.

If you could take look & let me know what you think ?

Many Thanks,

Tim

Tim, thanks for the log file information which shows several errors from when the backup stopped working but which also raises further questions to ask!

The only other hits for the above initial error message about the lease request look to come from backups to the Acronis Cloud and haven't shown any obvious solution to suggest!

What is the destination for this backup task?

What is the source for the backup data of the task?  Is this on the same local PC where ATI is running or is the source on another PC or location?  The logs show references to 'network' in the trace data which prompts this question.

Can you try creating a new backup task for the same source data and destination - if you can, does this run correctly?

Hello again Steve

Thank you for your quick response. To answer your further questions...

What is the destination for this backup task? - It is my account in Acronis Cloud

What is the source for the backup data of the task?  Is this on the same local PC where ATI is running or is the source on another PC or location?  - It is the former - the same local PC where ATI is running.

Can you try creating a new backup task for the same source data and destination - if you can, does this run correctly? - Yes I can (a small portion of it, to prove it works), & it runs fine. As indeed does another ongoing weekly scheduled backup task (that backs-up a different part of my PC file store); this other weekly task has remained unaffected.

But here is the thing: I cannot get to the affected backed-up files on the Acronis Cloud (Cyber Protect Home Office) dashboard, even though I can see those files continuing to use-up a significant portion of my paid-for storage.

When initially I open 'https://cloud-wr-eu2.acronis.com/#/dashboard' in my browser, I see the same 'Backup failed: Cannot create append manage file' error message that I see in ATI.

If I then click on 'Backups', I see my list of separate backups, each using-up a proportion of my storage, including the backup that is the target of the failing ATI backup task, which is the largest, using 95Gb of my 200Gb (I have 50Gb unused).

I can drill-down into any of the backups, as usual - except the one that is the target of the failing ATI backup. When I try this, I get the following pop-up message:

 Internal server error
To resolve the error, contact support with the error details:
f17e87f8cd9af12dc58e 01-23T17:26:52 cloud-wr-eu2.acronis.com

SO THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON THE ACRONIS SIDE.

Problem is, when I go to the Acronis support page for ATI, there is only a message that support for ATI ended on 31/12/21, with no option to actually contact support. This is a pretty unacceptable state of affairs.

Are you able to suggest what I can do next ? I cannot just re-create the failing backup task in full because, as I showed above, that particular backup uses 95Gb (which, although I cannot get to it, is still using-up that 95Gb), & I only have 50Gb of my 200Gb storage unused.

Thanks again,

Tim

Tim, if you have a valid subscription for Acronis Cloud then does this not also include being able to upgrade from ATI 2021 to the latest ACPHO version?  I would expect that it should and if so, then upgrading will get you into support for help with this Acronis Cloud issue.
