Add "Disconnect USB drive on completion

Thread needs solution

I would like a new feature - checkbox "Disconnect USB/target drive on completion", similar to "Shut down computer on completion".

I only connect my backup drive for backup to reduce chances for ransomware to encrypt it..

It would be nice to have an option so Acronis disconnects backup drive automatically, once the backup completed.

See forum topic: How to automatically connect and disconnect an external hard drive before and after a backup - where I provided some Powershell scripts which can do this automatically for you.  The scripts are zipped near the end of the topic.

These questions are only partly tongue-in-cheek:

Why would you have to worry about ransomware, if you are already protected by ACPHO?

If a malicious actor has the gained the ability to encrypt your external drive, wouldn't they also have the ability to mount it if it has been temporarily dismounted?

J K, you are making the assumption that the OP has enabled all the Cyber Protection features by having a subscription that includes them, otherwise the only protection is Active Protection.  A second assumption is that the external drive only contains Acronis backup files which are the primary focus of AAP.

As you allude to, if ransomware / malware / virus has got a foothold on any system, then it has already potentially bypassed these protections, presumably because the user has granted it permission to be active!

Not sure about the ability to re-mount a dis-mounted external drive but given how clever these threat actors / authors are, I certainly wouldn't discount such an ability!

The safest method of protecting any vital data is to remove it completely from all threat, so not only unmount an external drive but put as many further barriers between it and all threats, i.e. no power access, a wide air gap, stored at a distance in a locked safe / bank vault etc, and having multiple copies of such data in different places and stored of various types of media.

All,

There is a handy utility that can manage USB attached storage devices called Zentimo that may be of interest to readers of this thread found Here
