Going back to an earlier version of Acronis

Thread solved

I am currently using Acronis 2020 on Win 7.

I want to go back to Acronis 2019. (I also have a 2019 serial number.)

Is there a way to do this?

Not something I have tried to do, however, you will not be able to uses ATI 2019 to recover backups using the *.tibx architecture (but you can continue to use ATI 2020 recover media to do that). You would need to save backup task setting before you remove ATI 2020. It may also be a good idea to run the cleanup utility - see 48668: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, Acronis True Image: Cleanup Utility.

Before you do so, make a full backup. Some (possibly all) versions of ATI cannot be installed on systems running Windows 7.1 (which is many years out of support). I found this when trying to do so on a clean install of 7.1. There is a forum thread in which it is discussed but cannot find it at the moment.

To downgrade from a newer to an older version of ATI, you definitely need to fully uninstall the new version, run the Acronis Cleanup tool, reboot, then install the older version.

You can try exporting your backup task configuration settings to a zip file using the tool provided at the bottom of the Settings panel in the ATI 2020 GUI, then importing these settings back from the zip file after getting ATI 2019 installed.  See Importing and exporting backup settings in the ATI 2019 User Guide.

My main problem was getting the installation file for 2019. I got it by signing into my Acronis account online, where you can download the latest release.

I used Revo Uninstaller Pro, which first runs the Acronis uninstall, then its own cleanup of files, folders, and registry entries.

Following this, the installation of 2019 went smoothly and seems to be working fine. Instead of asking for a serial number, I was able to log onto my Acronis account for verification

I don't think you have to run the cleanup tool unless there was a problem uninstalling Acronis. The Acronis  page says to use the regular uninstall methods and run the cleanup tool only if there is a problem.

"If the product fails to be removed using the above methods, then the Cleanup Utility can be used to uninstall it."

In any case, I think that this is the correct way to go to an earlier version and you can mark this as solved.

Tony, the key reason for using the Acronis cleanup tool versus such as Revo, is that Acronis know for certain what special device drivers, some at kernel level, it has installed and therefore need to be removed.  Some of the Upper & Lower filters drivers have the ability to prevent Windows from booting if are mismatched (driver from later version used with program of earlier version).
