Restore Acronis True Image File

Thread needs solution

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing fine. I have an issue.  I want to upgrade the HD of one of my client's printer and replace it with an SSD to make it reliable and fast.  But I could not clone it using Acronis 2021. So what I did I backup the whole HD and save it in my HD.  Then I tried to restore it using same Acronis 2021 but I could not restore it to any drive because all the drives are greyed out. I suspect it is a OS Language issue.  What I did I do the add for the SSD and format it to MBR.  I guest I should get fresh from the box SSD?

Just  let me know and advance thank you.

Carlo, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but I wasn't even aware of printers having HDD's in them (assuming I am reading & understanding what you have written above?).

What file system is on the HDD, is it one that is used in Windows such as NTFS, FAT32 etc?  Or is it a Linux file system such as EXT3, EXT4 ?

What size of HDD is involved here?

What size of SSD are you replacing it by?

I suspect that the filesystem is not one that Acronis can handle without using Sector-by-Sector mode of operation which means that the SSD destination would need to be of equal size or larger than the HDD to be offered as a recovery target.

Hi Steve,

I think it is a Linux.  It has multiple EXT partition.  I tried to put exactly same HD but still greyed out.  What I did not try is to put a higher capacity. I will see if I can get an out of the box 512GB SSD and see.  I will let you know. Thanks for the reply.

Carlo, if the HDD is using mainly Linux partitions, you might be more successful using Clonezilla to do this migration to a SSD.
