BCD-store problems on GPT drive using DD12
Hi,
I regularly make an image copy of my drives for backup purposes using DD 12.
Due to an unrecoverable problem with Windows Update, I restored a copy of the C: partition to the same location on the SSD where the copy was made just behind the EFI system partition on the GPT drive. Unfortunately, the computer failed to boot anymore. After repairing the BCD-store using BCDboot I got 2 OS's to choose from during the boot sequence: C:\Windows and \Windows. Using MsConfig I removed the second one and everything was okay.
Lateron using DD12 I moved a partition with the letter I: on this SSD to another location on the same SSD. When rebooting the PC I had to choose again between Windows 10 (the default OS) and Windows. I selected Windows 10 and the OS was booted. Curiously MsConfig then showed only one OS called I:\Windows (???). After rebooting again and selecting the default Windows 10, MsConfig showed 2 operating systems to choose from: C:\Windows 10 and I:\Windows. I deleted the second one using MsConfig and everything was okay.
What could be wrong?
Thanks.

Hello Ekaterina,
Thank you for your reply.
My problem however is not how to repair the BCD registry file.
I'm just wondering why the BCD registry file has been changed by Acronis Disk Directory when it was restoring the C-partition and also when it was moving a partition (with the letter I:) to another location on the same GPT drive.
As an Acronis employee (I suppose you are), you may be able to check with Acronis developers which actions DD12 performs when a C partition is restored on a gpt disk and why DD12 seems to change the contents of the BCD registry file when another partition is moved on the same drive.
Thanks.

Hello JackV,
Sorry for the delayed response! I've passed this question to the product team and according to my colleagues we adjust the BCD file to reflect changes in the disk layout. In your scenario there shouldn't be any new entries in the BCD file, but without the more in-depth investigation it's hard to say why this happens. We'd recommend raising a support ticket so that our engineers can take a look at the situation.
Thank you,
