Bluescreen Acronis Disk Director 12

Thread needs solution

Hi there,
after installation of Acronis Disk Director 12 a blue screen is generated by the turning on and off an external USB hard drive.
Subject different computers. Windows 7 ultimate.
Error but only occurs after installation with Acronis True Image2014.
Does anyone have similar problems observed?
regards
Manni

Manni,

What does the BSOD text say and what is the error code shown? The code needed is the one that starts 0xNN.

Did you have a previous version of DD installed and do you have either True Image or Acronis Backup installed?

Is it the same USB drive that is causing the problem?

Is the USB drive connected to the PC directly or via an external hub?

Do all USB drives cause the same problem?

Hi Colin,
Thanks for your reply.
I have Acronis True Image
2014 Premium and Acronis Disk Director 11 installed.
There was no interference with USB drives.
After installing Acronis Disk Director 12 this error occurred.
And with all USB drives.
Blue Screen Error: No more IRP stack locations.
0x00000035
Tested on several computers with several USB drives.
Furthermore, the function "Try and Decide" starts with message "Failed".
After recovery of the computer I will now wait until these errors are fixed.
I think the customers should be the beta testers again.
Thank you for your help.
Regards Manni

My first thought was that this might be down to two different builds of Snapapi.sys , however your mention of IRP stack Locations has sent me on a different path.

Could you check the following please:

1. What AV/Firewall software do you use and what build?

2. Open up Windows registry (press Win Button + r and type in regedit, the navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters and see if you have an entry for IRPStackSize.

If it does exist, what is the number showing under data (hex or decimal it doesn't matter).

In the past Microsoft has a general KB article about some antivirus software causing this problem when other software uses the stacksize parameter.

Hi Colin,

I use MSE as antivirus.

In the registry, the following entry is found:

IRPstackSize 00000014 (20) (see screenshot)

Manni,

Try increasing the stacksize parameter, Microsoft suggest increasing this parameter by 3 until the problem disappears. Om my W7 system it is set at 36 which is quite high. I think the suggested maximum is 50.

Hi Colin,

I have changed the registry value to 36.
After several tests, the blue screen did not occur.
But "Try and Decide" still can not be started
Error message: "Starting Try and Device Failed"
Maybe you can also help here.
Otherwise, first of all thank you for your efforts.
Regards Manni

Manni,

Now try a repair install of TI or check in Windows Services that the T&D service is set to automatic and is running.

Hi Colin,
I have TI reinstalled, but the error still exists.
All Acronis services running.

I have already reported this fault to the support incident.
Thank you!
Regards Manni

Hello Manni & Colin,
Have either of you heard back from Acronis Support? I've been having the same BSOD with TI2014 and DD12.
Thanks!
Randy

Randall,

Could you please post the BSOD error code and text here?

Hello Colin,
I've since upgraded to TI2015 and fltsrv.sys (the culprit in the BSOD) has been updated. I'm going to wait and see what happens. If I get another BSOD during the "support" time I'll open a problem with Acronis.
