cloning

Thread needs solution

If i clone the main drive to a back up drive and make the back up bootABLE, will the source drive still be bootable so I can carry as usual but with a back up in the safe.

Bad idea.  you do not want to have two cloned drives installed and accessible to the bios at the same time.  The bios will see them as the same drive.  This has caused some bios firmware to overwrite the UEFI bootloader and modify the windows bootloader on both disks, making both of them unbootable.  A clone should be used as a "hot swap" tool and cloned drives should not be connected to the system with the original at the same time.  Some do this with no issues, but this has caused problems for many others.  It really depends on how your bios handles them being installed together.

Your clone should always be bootable since it's a clone of the original bootable drive.

personally, i would stick to full disk backup and recovery over clone and use your recovery media to restore backup images if a situation requires it.
