Disk Director won't resize my partitions

I have a Lenovo SL500 with a 160 GB HD partitioned into 4 parts. One partition contains Windows XP, another one contains Ubuntu, another contains data, and a last one contains installed programs...

I need to resize the Windows partition because all the updates are installed there and it is getting full, but everytime I try to resize with Acronis Disk Director, it says that the partition has reached its maximum capacity and will not let me increase the space.

There is plenty of free space in the 'Data' and 'Ubuntu' partitions that I wish I could share with the full ones... is there anything I could do?

Hopefully, you've created an Entire Disk Image backup of the drive. Proceeding without a backup is not recommended.

You would need to either have DD take free space from one of the other partitions or resize and move the other partitions manually to get the unallocated space located after the XP partition. Using the Manual Mode of DD is recommended.

For example, if your drive is setup like this:
[XP 40GB][Ubuntu 30GB][Data 80GB]

You would want to resize the Data partition smaller from the left:
[XP 40GB][Ubuntu 30GB].unallocated space 40GB.[Data 40GB]

Then move the Ubuntu partition to the right (you could resize also, if desired):
[XP 40GB].unallocated space 50GB.[Ubuntu 20GB][Data 40GB]

Then resize the XP partition to use the unallocated space:
[XP 90GB][Ubuntu 20GB][Data 40GB]

For best results, commit the changes between each step. It may take a while depending on how much data needs to be moved.

Also, you may need to reactivate/reinstall GRUB for Ubuntu after the partition is moved.
