Does Win 7 support Acronis disk director suite ver. 10?
does win 7 support Acronis disk director suite ver 10

Windows 7 is not a supported OS for DD 10. DD 11 should support it, but there's no release date on it yet.

I had Disk Director Suite 10.0.2160 installed when I upgraded my Vista system to Windows 7. I noticed that there was a Disk Director Suite 10.0.2239 available and downloaded it. When I tried to install that latest version it told me to remove the previous version and I did. Now when I try to install the 2239 version the installer tells me that Windows 7 is not supported. It looks like I am stuck without a version of the Disk Director Suite until you make the next version available.
It would have been much nicer if the 2239 installer would have told me that it wasn't supported on Windows 7 before it told me to remove the previous version. Are there any known problems running the older 2160 version on Windows 7? Should Disk Director 10 have been flagged as an incompatible program by the Windows 7 Upgrade? It did insist that I remove two other programs before it would let me upgrade to Windows 7.
Is there anything I can do to get the Disk Director Suite installed?
I do realize that I probably could boot the CD if I really needed to run the Disk Director.

Ronald: If you still have a copy of the installer for build 2160 then uninstall build 2239 then reinstall build 2160. If you no longer have a copy of the installer then try the suggestions in reply #50 of this post.

Thanks, Mark. I do still have a copy of the build 2160 installer. It never occurred to me that going back to an older version might work.

Yvon:
See reply #4 above or else contact Acronis Support via Private Message and ask for a copy of build 2160.

Hello all,
Yvon,
Acronis Disk Director doesn't support Windows 7 officially. It is not recommended to install it to Windows 7. You can use the program from Acronis Bootable Rescue Media and you can create it without installing the program. We have implemented the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file after logging in to your account (the serial number should be registered). Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products and downloads section -> Bootable media. You can learn more on how to download the file here.
Nevertheless, if you want to install build #2160 and use the program from within Windows, I can send you the installation file via PMs (this possibility was mentioned by Mark). Please let me know via PMs if you want to obtain the installation file for build #2160.
Please let me know if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.

I've been advised to get Acronis 10 to recover a disk which has crashed.
I have downloaded the product from my accoujnt site but when i try to install it says that it doesn't support Windows 7. I see that there is another build which does support my operating system. How do I get hold of it please

Looks like Acronis really dropped the ball on this one. It would have been nice if they had posted a notice on the download section that DD doesn't support Windows 7 before I went and downloaded the new version under the assumption that it would support Win 7, I mean it was in Beta for 10 months before release. Now I cannot even get it to uninstall because it doesn't support Win7 lol.

Help!
I installed DD Suite 10.0 on a Quad core, 4 Gig home built computer. I had Vista, Windows 7 RC, and two versions of Ubuntu installed and then tried the OS Selector. Everything worked fine for a week, then suddenly on start all I get is
Starting Acronis Loader
Acronis Loader: No configuration file present. Press enter to reboot.
What do I do now?

You probably need to reactivate OSS. Did you include the OSS programs on your DD CD?

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I do have the original CD. I bought the software on the CD. I put the CD in but I still just get the same no configuration file line and can not get past the no configuration file message.
I do have another hard drive in the computer. I put that drive as the first drive and the problem drive as second so I have the system working and can get to the partition on the second (problem) drive where the Acronis program is installed. I only looked but did not try anything yet. Should I delete and reinstall the Acronis program and/or just the OS selector?\
Thanks for any suggestions,
L.M.

When you put the DD/OSS CD in, did you boot from it? If you did, you should get the Acronis menu. Is the CD/DVD drive set to boot before the hard drive?

HI,
I did try to boot from the CD. This is the CD purchased from Acronis. Reading documentation I believe that this is a bootable disk. I did try both ways, When I turn on the computer I get the No configuation file message, I put in the original CD, nothing happened. I shut off the computer with the CD in the drive, turned the computer on, got the same No Configuation File message. I have checked that the BIOS is set so that the CD/DVD drive is the first boot device.
I also did unplug the hard drive, got an Intel message (is an Intel CPU) meadia test failure, no bootable device- insert boot disk and press any key but unable to to get the CD to boot.
Transition music please,
Since this does not make sence to me, I shut down, unplugged the problem hard drive, plugged in another hard drivetran that I know is working OK. I left the DD Suite 10.0 disk in, power off/on and the computer just booted with the hard drive and did not open the DD program. I then put in an XP install disk, power off/on, the XP install disk did start the install process.
The only thing I can assume is the the "Disk Director Suite 10.0 Download Alternative CD " is not a bootable disk.
I am about ready to take the bull by the tail and look the situation in the face. (just start from scratch and reinstall everything). But, I actually would like to understand what is going on.
Thanks for any help. It is only 5 F here so al least this is an inside activity.
L.M.
Solved the problem!! The more I checked it seemed that the purchased CD DD 10.0 was not a bootable in spite of the documentation. I used another computer to make a bootable CD as in the instructions, booted the problem computer with the new CD in, worked like a charm.
Thanks for the response, this was the only source of a help I had.
Thanks,
L.M.

I have DD build 2160 on my Ideapad u150 and it "works" but I've discovered it isn't really doing anything. Tried to resize a partition and it went through all the steps (including rebooting and the DOS-based screens) but when the computer started up again and I checked, the partitions were all exactly the same. I've had to purchase Partition Commander in order to do these because it's clear that Acronis DD 10 is just not Win7 compatible.

Hello all,
Please accept our profound apologies for the delays.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you the exact time frame when the net of Acronis Disk Director will be released. Our developers are working on this version on the top priority. We'll appreciate if you'll wait for a some time more. We'll definitely update our forum and to inform you about the update.
Bruce, most probably there were some USB devices plugged in during the operation (USB hard drive, card reader etc). and this caused the issue.
To fix it, please do the following:
Temporarily detach any USB storage device that is plugged in. Perform the operation with the USB storage device detached.
If you have an inbuilt card reader, then disable it through Windows Device Manager:
- Hit Win-R to get to the command prompt;
- Type in devmgmt.msc and hit Enter;
- In the Device Manager window locate your card reader (it probably starts with letters SD, MMC etc);
- Right-click on the card reader and select Disable.
Also, as a workaround, you can try performing the same operation from Acronis Bootable Rescue Media
Please let me know if there will be any additional questions, I'll be glad to help.
Thank you.

@Ilya:
I can't understand the bahaviour of Acronis in this Case.
ADD10 works fine with Win7. There is no Problem of ADD10 to work with Win7. The only thing to do, is to make the Installroutine from ADD10 to recognize Win7.
I NEED a Bootmanager like ADD10 or a Partitionprogramm.
In the meanwhile i've bought Paragon Partition Manager™ 10.0 Professional. Now all works fine.
I know that ADD10 works with Win7 without any crashes, don't tell anything else. (If you don't know how, i can teach you Ilya/Acronis). It is very Simple.
The real reason is to earn Money, that ADD10 don't support Win 7!

Jerry Smith,
Post like these (you just did seven of them) don't help. Personally, as I track a lot of threads, I find them irritating because I have to clear them out.

Just curious why DD 10 build 2160 works fine (or so it appears) on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit computer and the upgrades won't even install? I have used DD 10 to modify my partitions with no problems that I can detect. For a version that isn't Windows 7 compatible, it seems to work fine. When I purchased it, your sales people told me it was Windows 7 compatible, and even 64 bit compatible. Please clarify!

Builds of DD10 later than 2160 got added to the MS banned program installation database. This is because there are somethings that DD10 might do, which are no longer in step with the 'Microsoft W7 way' .
For example Microsoft have changed where some registry keys should be in W7, this might have unintended consequences if software that is now supposed to use those areas gets installed.
DD10 (including the rescue CD) has no knowledge of the new 2048 sector offset that will accompany all clean installed W7 systems (in theory this should have affected Vista as well), therefore it could leave your system unbootable.
If you upgraded your OS from either an XP formatted drive or from a Vista install that was upgraded from XP then your disk system will still be using the 64 sector offset method and DD10 is still usable in the rescue disk format.
DD10 also won't align disks to the 4K clusters that many drive manaufacturers are designing their large drives for. I'm assuming here that DD11 when it arrives will be 4K cluster and SDD knowledgeable.
legacy drive format: 1 sector = 512 bytes. 8 sectors = 1 cluster - sectors and clusters may not always end at the same place due to the 64 byte offset from the partition table.
With a 2048 byte offset, clusters and sectors can align (end/begin) at the same place.

You are correct. I upgraded from XP to Vista to Win7. I guess all I can do now is await DD11.

Thanks for the information. Now I understand why we can't use DD10. Just wish Acronis could move a little faster on this much needed upgrade.
