full release windows 7 ultimate x32 incompatability with Acronis products
Diskdirector 10 build 2239 will not install. Says 'incompatible with operating system'. Diskdirector 10 build 2160 installs but when trying to execute it says 'need to reboot'. After rebooting, you get the same message to reboot. TI2010 does the same thing as DD 10 build 2160. Keeps telling to reboot. Will not execute. Stay away from full release of windows 7 if you want to use Acronis products!

So when will Acronis Disk Director Suite 11.0 be available?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires

So what happened is that Windows 7 was such a significant change from Vista that a completely new version of Acronis True Image and Disk Director Suite had to be created?
That's weird. I still have NTFS file systems on 7. Similar, if not the same, bootmgr. I can even use EasyBCD on 7. Pretty much all of my apps that I used on Vista, now just automatically work on 7, or they have already been updated to work on 7. Perfectdisk 10 works perfect on 7. As a matter of fact, Perfectdisk 10 has been updated to support windows 7. I am using an RTM version that I received from MSDNAA. I guess that Raxco didn't see it necessary to make Perfect disk 11 to support Windows 7, and that they would go ahead and make their product support 7 BEFORE its release date. Interesting strategy that Raxco has. Somehow I feel more drawn to spending money over there. I can't quite explain this feeling, as if it were a form of customer satisfaction; that I didn't ask for. Rather Raxco's strategy was to implement value into my customer experience before I had to go to their support forums to find out why I had to buy a new version with the oh so significant changes from Vista to 7 and all, thus requiring a completely new version.
No, not really. PD10 just needed an update. I didn't have to go their website and search for "{current version} doesn't work with Windows 7". Downloaded, installed, and back to productivity.

It's odd how build 2160 installed without issue on Windows 7 RTM but the new build 2239 doesn't, it's as if Acronis have blocked build 2239 from installing on Windows 7 so they can make more money from us, not very customer friendly is it, Acronis are taking liberties with it's customers, all they needed to do was release an update for Windows 7 as there was no need for a new version 11.
It's a p**s take.

I have been using Disc Director build 2160 on Windows 7 x64 trial/OEM release versions without problems. In fact D/D build 2160 loads & runs much faster on Win 7 x64 than in Vista x64...
Then I noticed a recent D/D 2239 update, which required the existing D/D to be uninstalled before installation could proceed. Annoying, especially for only a minor upgrade..
Following the mandatory re-boot, when attempting to install build 2239, the installation fails claiming incompatibility with Windows 7. None of Windows 7 'compatibility' settings work...
Acronis, you are behaving like a big corporation that doesn't regard customer experience and satisfaction as high priorities: Why could you not be *honest* with loyal customers - provide a warning that the D/D build 2239 has been deliberately made incompatible with Windows 7 this would save many a bad experience which may adversely influence future purchasing decisions!

I will second the ideas expressed above on customer satisfaction and future purchasing decisions!
I have always held Acronis up as a GREAT example of how a company looks out after their true
blue customers, but now that feeling is fading FAST!

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
Too late. All machines updated to Windows 7 now. Had to look for software elsewhere.
Select Downloaded Acronis Software -> Press and hold Shift + Delete -> Select Yes.
Bye!
P.S. Interesting how there have been free versions of Partition Manager software on the market that support Windows 7 for a few months now. Free support too.
Also, even if the built in Windows 7 backup feature only allows full backups, it's still free considering that it comes with the OS.

I fully agree with you on the behavior of Acronis. I have also been ripped off on True Image Home concerning an issue with eSATA drives being off-line.
I recently went through a one week Windows 7 Admin course. From what I learned the disk and file structure between Windows Vista and Windows 7 is identical. It is interesting to note that the Disk Director Suite update came out very shortly after the Windows 7 RC became available.
Accidentally on purpose or?

So maybe I was stupid, but I bought and downloaded DD 10 this morning in the expectation that it would work on Windows 7. Do I get a free upgrade to DD 11 when it comes?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires

Well that makes two of us.
I bought DD10 about 3 weeks ago and now find it will not work on Windows 7
When will it be available???
Do I get a free upgrade to DD 11 when it comes?
Or is it best just to ditch it altogether and get an alternative
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires

My experience with True Image Home tells me they got your money and delivered you trash. They claimed the new version would correct the problem with external eSata which it didn't and I had to pay for the new version despite the previous being less then a month old. Also the support took weeks to months between responses. I am still stuck with the problem to this day.
As for DD, the best I can suggest is to try to acquire an earlier build of DD10 from somewhere.
The alternative is to dump Acronis and go to a friendly supplier.

Hi All,
Here's another take on this - I just purchased DD10 online a few minutes ago (before I read this thread!). However, in doing so, I thought I would get the option of paying a little extra, in order to be able to download a new version if it was released in the next 12 months ie. a one-year maintenance subscription for *upgrades* (with updates free as usual). Lo and behold, this option did not appear as I clicked through the ordering screens and suddenly I had bought it without realising that the upgrade option wasn't offered.
Am I going nuts? Was I thinking of another product? Doesn't Acronis normally let you do this?
Anyway, I hope I'm covered for DD11 when it gets released (I bought it primarily in order to play with Windows 7).
Cheers, Greg

Hello all,
Thank you for using Acronis True Image
The correct operations are not guaranteed on Windows 7. We are planning to release updates for our current products to fully support Microsoft Windows 7 after the official release.
Thank you.
--
Oleg Lee
That was in January. We are now 5 days past release of Windows 7. When exactly were these updates going to arrive?
Seriously, Acronis. One of the greatest things about Windows 7 is that 7 IS what Vista should have been. I have found drivers for pretty much everything I need, either from Microsoft, or from the manufacturer of the equipment I am using. I found those updates either before 7's release, or on the release date.
Support for the OS is here from many, like it should be. What would you have to risk by following that theme? Happy customers? More sales? I don't generally consider those bad things to have, especially in business operations.
How is it that you would rather release a new version of software over providing an update to fix what you already have?
What justifies a decision like that? Does your CEO own a PC?
It is clear that you have a reputation for outstanding software. I love the backup features that ATI has had, and the partition management that DD has had.
However, all of the features Acronis has to offer can be easily replaced by features included in Windows 7, or freeware. The only inconvenience is that the software can't all be made into a single bootable CD or DVD. That was nice.
I won't mind giving up that feature though. I wouldn't even mind paying for it, but you still cannot deliver. DD Suite 11, where is it? Better yet, where are the updates for DD Suite 10 and ATI2009H?
Anyways. I hope that you give your customers free upgrades. The ones that have recently purchased software that does not work on Windows 7. If not, then I would consider researching a subject called Business Ethics. If not for moral benefit, then to realize that customers can and will choose based upon veracity and fidelity.

Hi all
I'm obviously not alone in smelling a huge money making stitch-up by Acronis.
My 2c worth; there's a great free programme, (only limitation is unable to create boot-up CDs, but can in the paid for version US$ 31.96).
Got a very Acronis DD look and feel about it, felt at home right away and does everything that DD does. Plus it's free and works beautifully in Windows 7!!

I tried the EASEUS Partition Master on a Vista platform where I needed to shrink the size of the O/S partition to allow space for Windows 7. DD and the Vista were unable to shrink the partition, however Partition Magic could do it. Vista stores system files at the end of the partition thus blocking shrinking. PM was successful in moving these files properly and shrinking the partition. It appears Windows 7 can also shrink a Vista OS partition.
It is not often you get something for nothing.
It sure beats paying for nothing.

Hello all,
Thank you for your notes.
I want to explain why the possibility to install Acronis Disk Director 10.0 onto Windows 7 is disabled. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 doesn't not officially support Windows 7, but this didn't stop a certain amount of our customers from installing the program and using it under this environment. Acronis support received complaints about several issues regarding the compatibility of the program with Windows 7 OS. Since every partitioning operation is rather dangerous by default, we preferred to disable the opportunity to install the software, this should help our customers to avoid the irrevocable issues.
I agree, that the warning about the incompatibility with Windows 7 should be placed on the main Acronis Disk Director web page, I will submit a request to the appropriate department.
Meanwhile, please note that the program can be run from bootable media on any PC, independent of the operating system installed. We have implemented the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file after logging in to your account (the serial number should be registered). Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products and downloads section -> Bootable media. Download the file. You can find more information on how to burn an ISO image to a CD here
The next version of the program will support Windows 7, we expect the Acronis Disk Director 11.0 release in December.
Thank you.

Did you try this? Maybe I will. I bought the new DD in mid September, unaware that it would not run on Win7. I wonder if Acronis (previouly held in high regard...now...waiting to see what they do) will give us a free upgrade, or, baring that, maybe a 75% discount?
I had the previous build I think, because it was working under Win7 EXCEPT the OS Selector did not appear to be installed, so I redownloaded and now.....no more DD.
Anyone here tried the PC mags?

Oleg, is downloading the bootable media and creating a boot disk the same as creating a recovery boot disk from the DD10 updated full version from within windows? Thanks
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires

Hello,
Thank you for taking time to contact us.
Norman,
Every discount request should be investigated personally, right now I can promise you a 25% discount.
John,
There are two types of Acronis Bootable Media:
1) Acronis Bootable Media that you can generate in your Acronis product. This type of media is based on Acronis Loader;
2) Acronis Bootable Media that you can download from your account on the Acronis website. This type of media is based on ISOLINUX.
ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released.
ISOLINUX Bootable Media has several boot parameters that may help overcome possible issues with booting. You can also set a specific VGA resolution in the ISOLINUX media if there an issue with the Graphical User Interface (GUI).
All the product operations and options are the same in ISOLINUX Bootable Media and Acronis Loader Bootable Media. The only exception is that you can activate Acronis Startup Recovery in the Acronis Loader media, and you cannot do it in the ISOLINUX one.
ISOLINUX Bootable Media | Acronis Loader Bootable Media |
All product operations and options are the same | |
No Acronis Startup Recovery Manager activation (if available in the product) | Acronis Startup Recovery activation (if available in the product) |
Multiparameter booting | Default parameters booting |
Ability to set VGA resolution | Default resolution and BIOS video settings |
More frequent driver updates | Drivers are updated only with the release of a new product build |
In general, if there is any issue with booting working from the regular Acronis Bootable Media (based on Acronis Loader), it is recommended to try using the one based on ISOLINUX.
Thank you.

I haven't yet looked at Easeus Partition Master, but I just downloaded a trial of Paragon Partition Manager 10 to check out. From the propaganda on their site, it *looks* like a better product than Disk Director 10, which I own in addition to TI Home 2010.
For such system utilities, I'd rather stick with one company, but I'm unimpressed with Acronis' support of (and updates to) DD10. I do really like TI Home 2010 and use more features in it than I have in all the prior versions I've owned.
Currently Paragon's product is bundled with Virtualization Manager 2009 for $39.99. BTW, Paragon Partition Manager 9 (which doesn't support Win7 unfortunately) was on "Giveaway of the Day" recently. (Not sure if you can get it elsewhere or not.)

I just discovered although Paragon Partition Manager 10 is $39.99, they currently have it on sale for $19.95. Here's the link: XXXXXXXXXXX

Been playing with it for a couple of day now, don't have anywhere near the versatility of DD, nor does the paid up version, (got a peek at a mate's copy).
Just one example; in DD you can copy a file from a hidden partition and paste it where you want, pretty handy in certain circumstances!
Can't do that in Easeus paid or otherwise.

I do understand why some people are upset but at the same time I also don't think this is really important because a program like Disk Director doesn't need Windows to run anyway. I would never even consider using a partitioning program from within Windows, it's just not worth the risk. I always just burn the CD or download the ISO directly and then never look at the Windows-based program again.
What is much more of an issue is the lack of support for recent chipsets so that it's not possible to manage SATA drives -- the current version of DD 10 (ISO download) doesn't see any SATA drives on my AMD 785G/SB710 chipset board, so I'm kind of stuck at the moment.

Hello,
So I bought and downloaded DiskDirector 10 this morning in the expectation that it would work on Windows 7 (Home Premium). Do I get a free upgrade to DD 11 when it comes? I cannot install it on my computer, it´s not supported by Win7 operating system!!! It is not usable for me... Thank you.

Good Morning People,
Is it just me or does it seem that we are getting no real answers to our questions here?
I would expect some real time answers from ACRONIS people in the know.
I would be very saddened to have to change to another company for the software I need as
Acronis has been so on-top of things in the past.
PLEASE ADVISE US AS TO WHEN AND UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS WE CAN GET REAL ANSWERS...

I have to agree on the lack of hardware support. Aside from this latest DD10 update that simply removes the ability to install on Win7, there have been *NO* updates to DD10 in *years*. This is my biggest complaint. Further, Win7 has been on the horizon for quite a while. TI2010 supports it, why not DD? This is a time when we really *do* need support for new hardware and new OS. DD11 will be available in December??????
I suppose that's better than Acronis prematurely releasing an app that doesn't work properly, but still!

If the product will not work with Windows 7 then what am I paying for?
I have just bought a new computer and I wish to partition the HD before I start loading programs and files. If this product can't help me then I have no choice but to try a different product. I have no intention of waiting until Dec.

DJ and others:
While you're waiting, try the built-in partitioning tools in Windows 7. They're not as powerful or as flexible as 3rd party partitioning software, but they may get the job done.
Right-click on your Windows 7 partition in Disk Management console and choose "Shrink Volume" to reduce the size of the existing partition, then create new partitions in the resultant free space.

Furthermore, I bought and downloaded DD 10 bundled with TI Home 2010, so I haven´t any doubts about the compatibility with Win7 OS because Acronis declare compatibility of TI Home 2010 with Win7!!! One could say "buyer beware," as the info is on the Acronis web site that DD10 *doesn't* support Win7. BUT it's unconscionable for Acronis to package the two apps together, touting that TI2010 supports Win7. There really should be a prominent notice on the DD10 info/purchase pages that DD11 will support Win7.
It certainly costs to process refunds, but I guess Acronis is counting on people *not* returning DD10 and waiting for a reduced-price upgrade to DD11. Rotten, IMNSHO.

The funny thing here though is that DD10 version 2160 works fine with W7. I know this because I was using DD10 with W7 64bit at the weekend to re-size one of the HD after wiping Hardy Heron and the dual boot. I can never fathom Acronis thinking i.e. they release an upgrade that won't work with W7 but the existing release will?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires

Hi Faust,
Another FUNNY THING is the lack of notice that OS Selector 8 does NOT know windows 7 from
a hole in the ground.
I would think they would make a BIG Red notice about these things.
I guess the Osbourn experience may have something to do with it.
They should at least INFORM buyers that there is a small problem and give them an
FREE upgrade coupon or such.
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires

Hmm! it gets worse - I have followed Acronis support advice in this thread and downloaded the iso for the latest build of DD10. Downloaded no problem burned iso image no problem, tried to use said disk, problem - USB wireless mouse and keyboard don't not work so cannot select anything. The Linux drivers obviously don't support USB - well thought through there Acronis. I'm just waiting now for the usual Acronis support fix of "open up a command line". Yes, the average PC user often has to open up command lines when using bespoke software - not!

Hi Faust,
Does the cd have a selection for "Safe Version" of the job you want?
I encountered this problem in the past when i upgraded to a Dell that has USB mouse/KB.
I have seen notes about difference between LINUX used in downloaded and created ISO's.
Hope this helps...

Unfortunately the ISOLINUX disc doesn't include a "safe" version of DD. :-(
Paragon's Disk Manager 10 kills my NIC so it can't be used via the boot CD or in Windows until I remove power from the machine and let it sit a few minutes. When the NIC is out, I can successfully ping localhost, but that's it. I tried a disc of DM9.5, and it does the same. :-( (I just built up a new machine using the MSI P55 CD53 mainboard and haven't tried DM on any other machine.)
I just downloaded a copy of Parted Magic 4.5, which is a live CD that does a lot more than just partition. I'll be trying it shortly.

Ah well! nothing lost really as I still have build 2160 which is installed and working perfectly with Windows 7. Acronis appears to have a penchant for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

It is extremely disappointing that a company would operate in the fashion that this one has. Software is expensive as it is. Customers have purchased this software within days of the introduction of Windows 7 without any notice of the incompatibility of the software with this operating system. You now indicate that only a 25% discount will be provided should the customer decide to obtain a version of DD that is compatible with Windows 7. Almost all updated software provided by other companies will introduce compatibility with new operating systems. I purchased Disk Director as Partition Magic or any other such program did not provide support for x 64 builds. This was the only software I found that was able to function under this environment. Now I am at a complete disadvantage: not only do I not have support for x 64, but I also do not have support for Windows 7.
If you wish to maintain loyalty from your customers, this situation should be rectified. Word of mouth does quite a bit in harming the reputation of any business and should it spread well enough, your company stands in danger of having to declare bankruptcy as noone with a head on their shoulders will purchase your software.
I'm in a position now that I have to either re-install Windows 7 or engage in a potentially fruitless search for comparable software that requires an additional financial outlay.
Thanks very much Acronis.

It would be REALLY nice if someone from ACRONIS would come out with some REAL
information about this problem and ANY solution they are working on.
So far it looks like the last good True Image Workstation is ECHO 9.7 build 8206.
Anything after that seems to have gone to the dogs.

Hello to all,
Well Im a bit disapointed in reading all this.
Just for those who got into trouble by installing Windows 7 on their system.
Windows 7 does overwrite the OS Boot Selector of DD10 during installation.
This made that I did loose access to my old XP and Fedora instalation.
The boot media did not work on my hardware it just stops loading.
I solved this the following way.
You can actually still download the old version by changing the version number in the link. For example the actual link is: https://es.acronis.com/my/download/?DiskDirectorSuite10.0.2239_s_en.exe
If you change the version number you can access the old version of the program.
https://es.acronis.com/my/download/?DiskDirectorSuite10.0.2160_s_en.exe
You still can actually download the old 2160 version of the program
This made it possible to install DD10 under Windows 7 and restore the OS BootSelector (I choose the option Repair/Update).
Then I booted into my XP Installation and fixed the entries in the Boot Selector. (Remeber to remove all USB medias before you repair the OS Boot Selector)
WARNING: DD10 DOES NOT SUPPORT Windows 7, and this is no OFFICIAL GUIDE. Its meaned to help those who got in trouble of loosing their system instalation. I strongly recommend do not use DD10 under Windows 7 and do not modify any Windows 7 Partitions with it.
