How to Make Isolated XP Operating Systems

I have created 4 primary partitions. I installed Win XP in each of them. However, they are not isolated from each other, and more troublesome, they have different drive letters, except the main which is C:.
I am using OSSelector, but not sure what I'm doing wrong. I want every OS completely isolated, and when I boot I want to boot into drive C: Can anyone guide me in the right direction.

Basically, you would need to do the following:

  1. Make sure your DD CD includes the OSS programs. Create a new DD CD if necessary.
  2. Uninstall OSS and select the XP #1 system (the one that comes up properly as C:) as the default.
  3. Reformat the other XP partitions to clear them.
  4. Check the boot.ini file on the XP partition and remove the other XP entries if they're there. You only want the XP #1 entry.
  5. Reinstall OSS. It should find the XP #1 system and set up the menu.
  6. Create a new backup of the drive at this point. This will be the starting point if you need to start over for some reason.

Next, do the following for each XP you install to the other partitions:

  1. Deactivate OSS and select XP #1 as the default. Do not uninstall OSS.
  2. Boot to the DD CD and set the new XP partition as not hidden and Active. Hide all the other XP partitions. Apply the changes. In other words, the XP partition being installed to must be visible (not hidden) and must be Active. All other XP partitions must be hidden.
  3. Boot to the XP CD and install XP to the Active partition (should show up as C:).
  4. When the installation has finished, boot to the DD CD and reactivate OSS. It should find the new XP installation and add it to the menu.

Doing the above will get your systems isolated from each other and they will each be C: when booted.

I would like to dual boot Windows 7 and XP. Will the same procedure work to end up with each being in its own C: drive? Which should I install first?

If I have the choice, I usually install the older version first. However, it doesn't really matter since anything can be fixed up afterwards, if necessary. The same procedure applies.
