Need faster response

Thread needs solution

Have netbook that I love; I installed OS Selector and the software found diiferent OSs and listed them on the OS Selection menu, wonderful; the problem is slow response time. The processor speed is 1.6GHz.

The netbook combines energy efficiency with outstanding graphics display capabilities such as a 10.2" Color-Shine display, NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS with 256MB VRAM, and it has an HDMI port for output to HDFS TV. Considering how to improve response time; would appreciate advise.

What if I:
1) replaced 5400rpm hard drive with 7200rpm drive
2) wiped hard drive clean
3) made a primary partition for Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit
4) made a second primary partition for Windows XP Professional and installed Office 2003
5) made a logical partitions for storing data
6) installed SUSE on the express card's 32GB SSD

What else can I do to speed-up response time? Is there some way I can install Operating System Selector wiithout slowing down the system?

If it's just OSS that is responding slowly on boot-up, try disabling the CD-ROM drivers for OSS. That seems to help quite a few problems.

Having OSS installed should not be affecting the speed of any OS once it's booted.

Glad to know that OSS should not cause any OS to run slowely; plan to make custom installation of XP Pro 32-bit, and store image file on xSATA; upgrade XP to Win 7 and store image file on xSATA; wipe the disk clean and install OSS with Windows XP and Win 7 on seperate disk partitions; appreciate advise on how to validate BIOS upgrade and driver installation?

I'm not sure what you're wanting here. Can you be more specific?

How to validate BIOS?

Want to make sure BIOS is working properly before installing OSS; found 5 BIOS updates on manufacturer's website; TS advised me not to upgrade BIOS because fixes are irrelevant to my system; decided to wait. Is there anything else I should do regarding testing the performance of the BIOS? One thing I noticed was the BIOS did not allow placing an express card in the boot sequence. I have a 32GB SSD on my express card.

Waiting for delivery of Full version of Windows 7, Ultimate, 32-bit. Netbook does not have VT therefore unable to run Windows 7 in dual mode with Windows XP, and I would like to continuse to use several applications under XP. When I installed OSS on this netbook it found os installed on the internal hard drive and external devices, and placed them on Operating System Selection menu. I plan to make a custom installation of Windows 7 and install OSS. The netbook has an Atom, N270 processor. After making these installations I hope system response time is adaquate.

I am trying validate drivers, hard disk performance, BIOS; any advise will be listen to. I appreciate the help you have given.

Thank you.

Tech Support will usually recommend against updating the BIOS. Sometimes this is not always a good thing. Do you have a link to the change logs for the updates? If it really is true that none of the updates would help your computer, then there's no reason to update. However, there are times when things are fixed/changed/broken in updates and are not listed in the "official" changes. When I setup a new computer, I usually try to use the most current BIOS and then do my testing. Any updates after that point are only as required. For example, one computer I have needed a custom BIOS from support to boot with the CPU/RAM combination I had (future BIOS updates did not include this fix).

Validating the BIOS (in my opinion) is more a case of testing stability than anything else. Set the options where they need to be and run MEMTEST overnight, run your programs, see if you have any problems that you didn't have before the update, etc. Always check ALL BIOS settings after updating. Sometimes settings will not get carried over.

While not officially supported by Microsoft, Virtual PC 2007 SP1 can be installed in Windows 7 and doesn't require Intel-VT.

I had issues with a very slow OSS response as well.

I attempted the solution given by MudCrab, but found it didn't work, however I noticed my response on the options screen was much higher.

I went into the display options, set it to max screen solution, high colour quality and 72 Hz refresh rate (optimal), and the response issues were gone completely.

If only it'd fixed my mouse issues as well.

Thank you Peter,

I intend to max. screen refresh rate as I continue to seek a solution to the slow response my netbook exhibits.

Hello all,

Let me clarify some points here.

KCav, as far as I understand, you're receiving low performance when OS Selector is loaded, is that correct?

If yes, this issue can be related to CD ROM drivers, as MudCrab correctly mentioned.

Also, the good suggestion is to use the latest build of the product (2239)which is available here, since we have fixed some issues with OS Selector.

To get access to updates you should first register Acronis software.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Best regards,

I want to expand my use of Acronis software. I feel good about my progress automating procedures used to make image files of disk partitions. I want to begin using Acronis virtualization capabilities to explore the simplest way to perform repetitive tasks.

I use three computers and I want to migrate to Windows 7 Ultimate edition 32-bit in dual mode with Windows XP Professional. I use (1) A netbook which has an Atom processor and 10.2" display (2) A notebook that has a Core 2 Duo processor and 15.4" display. (3) I share a desktop computer which has a printer and scanner attached.

Alex, I appreciate the opportunity to ask you questions about Acronis products via email because I feel Acronis is giving me the opportunity to over come problems that have haunted me for a long time. I look forward to sending you emails and posting to the Acronis Forum .
