resizing partition failed and the partition is not farmatted now

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am using disk director 11 home edition and encountered a problem.

I will summarize what I did and the result that I got:

  1. decreased the size of one partition (D);
  2. increased the size of another partition (E);
  3. committed both operations at the same time;
  4. acronis asked to restart the computer and I approved it;
  5. acronis presumably finishes the 2 operations and asks me to press <Enter> to reboot.
  6. Laptop reboots to windows fine without any errors/messages from Acronis

Result:

  1. The size of partition E didn't change;
  2. partition is not accessable but is still detected by both windows and Acronis;
  3. Acronis identifies D as a "Not-formatted", "logical", and "Healthy";
  4. Upon clicking D, the following message appears:
  5. "You need to format the disk in drive D: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" and the following error pops up: "D:\ is not accessible     The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."
  6. Acronis recovery expert does not detect D and shows a red "C" on the top left corner of that partition

Question:

Is it possible to recover my data from partition D? Can I format the partition and recover data then?

some notes:

  • No backup or previous restore points;
  • Neither partitions are the boot partition C --> partitions D and E are not in use and not data has been changed since.

Thanks

Did the size of the D: partition change? Was it resized smaller?

If you need to try any file recovery programs on the partition do it before you make any changes (this includes formatting). Any changes can cause files to be more difficult to recover.

Another user recently posted that they were able to recover their DD-corrupted partition with DMDE. It might be worth giving it a try.
