Acronis Drive Monitor OK for RAID1 (mirrored) drives?

Thread needs solution

Hi Acronis,

Can you please confirm that I am correct or incorrect on the following:

Acronis Drive Monitor will work for simple hardware (or software) mirrored drives (ie. simple RAID 1, not RAID1+0 or 0+1). This is because the OS is just seeing the primary drive of the mirrored set, and Acronis Drive Monitor is monitoring the SMART status of that drive. If the primary drive of a mirrored set fails and the secondary drive takes over, there may or may not be a failure event that Acronis Drive Monitor would report. Raid failure event notifications are provided by the RAID hardware monitoring software or the OS. That said, Acronis Drive Monitor would still be beneficial as it can provide predictive failure notices before the primary drive actually fails.

As a registered Acronis v10 user and Reseller, I suppose I could make an official support case for this, but I thought it would benefit the user base if this is resolved in the public forum.

For anyone interested: This is from tech support:

"Acronis Drive Monitor supports RAID drives too. It allows you to monitor RAID controllers not using S.M.A.R.T. monitoring technology."

That's all they had to say about it. Not sure myself how Drive Monitor could ever work on striped or RAID5 drives. Like they implied, a raid controller will have it's own predictive failure features.

I am just satisfied that it will assist on RAID 1 (mirrored drives).
