Backup & Recovery for Microsoft Exchange MAPI error 1281

Thread needs solution

I'm getting the following during the backup of Exchange Mailboxes:

MAPI error 1281 (0xB63025) "The client operation has failed"

This causes the backups to hang and all subsequent backups fail. This is a new install of the following build:

Acronis® Recovery for Microsoft Exchange Server® version 1.0 (build 239)

Attached is a copy of the error screenshot.

Any help on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Derrick

Hello Derrick,

Welcome to Acronis forums and thank you for posting. I will definitely help you with resolving this issue.

The MAPI error 1281 (0xB63025) "The client operation has failed"is quite common and can be caused by multiple reasons and it is related to the MAPI interface which is used to access your mailboxes. Most likely there are some specifics in your Exchange server setup that cause this issue.

I would recommend these workarounds:

1. Please use Information Store backup type instead of Mailbox one. The Information Store backup is accessing the mailboxes in a completely different way so there will be no MAPI errors if you use it.

2. Here's another possible solution available on web from Exchange users who have the same MAPI problems:

To resolve this issue, set the Allow Expand DL in ACL Data registry value.

To set the Allow Expand DL in ACL Data registry value:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate and click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem

On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: Allow Expand DL in ACL Data
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Binary
Value data: 1

Quit Registry Editor.

If you are still having difficulties, please collect this report and together with your screenshot contact our Support team via chat or phone so that we may resolve this problem.

Please let me know if you need additional help.

Thank you.
