Scheduled Task will not end and I can't stop it

Thread needs solution

hello...I have Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange v1.0 build 239 and I have a scheduled task that has been running for about 2 days in the same spot...I tried to stop/start all Acronis tasks and rebooted the server, but, still will not stop...this is also not allowing any other scheduled tasks to run, so, I am not getting any backups on my Exchange server currently...how can I stop this task?

thanks for your help

Hello Scott!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern, and will be glad to help you!

According to the information provided the issue is related to the Scheduler glitch:

Scheduler is designed in such a way that it doesn't start the second task until the first one is finished. In order to solve the issue let's try the following:

  1. Stop Scheduler services (Start -> Run -> services.msc)
  2. Update Scheduler as mentioned in this article
    In case the issue remains:
  3. Download Acronis Scheduler Manager. Open command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd); run schedmgr.exe and issue the following command:
    task zap
This will erase all traces of the tasks.
  4. Reboot the machine
  5. Recreate the tasks

This should resolve the issue faced. In case the problem it still present, please gather:

  1. In case you're using Exchange - Exchange logs
  2. In case you're using MS SQL:
    - Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Management Console logs from the machine where it is installed:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\DatabaseBackup\Logs

    - Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent logs from the machine where it is installed:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\FomatikAgent\Logs

    - MS SQL Server native logs from the machine where Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent is installed:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG

    - Task Service logs from the machine where Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent is installed:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TasksService\Logs

    - Windows System Information File from the machine where Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server Agent is installed.

    - Specify where the backup archive is stored (i.e. NAS device, local drive, FTP etc).

    - Check whether a database can be backed up successfully by means of MS SQL native utilities.

After that please  contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

hi Yana,
i got another question. i have an exchange backup build 211 that almost has same issue as above. i noticed that one of task was hung for about a month. after i hit stop, it still couldn't end task. (attachment) on same server i have "acronis true image echo server build 8115" installed as well. my questions are:
1- i can not delete all these tasks and redo them, deploying "acronis schedule manager" alone would fix it? what other thing i can do to fix this issue?
2- for acronis 9 or older, i could stop trueimageservice.exe and end hung process, but i don't know which service would do for exchange or ABR10 without stopping everything else?

many thanks in advance
M.B

Hello Masood,

Thank you for your comment, I'll gladly address it.

In order to stop the stalled task, please stop the taskservice.exe (Right Click on the taskbar -> Task Manager -> Processes). This should stop running and stalled tasks.

Unfortunately we do not have a Scheduler update for the Acronis Recovery for Exchange, so the situation requires investigation. There can be several reasons for this issue, and we need to localize one. First of all please make sure that you're running the latest build of the software installed (I can see that the Echo build is an outdated one).

In case you have the latest build installed and the issue is present, please gather this information:

1. Acronis Info from Agent machine

2. Screenshot of the error and/or detailed description of the issue

3. Group membership of the user

4. User rights assignment export

5. Is the Exchange server a part of a cluster?

If the issue is with connecting to Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange Agent, also collect the following information:

6. Screenshot of credentials window

7. If Agent and Console are on different machines, collect Wireshark (PCAP) logs and get IP addresses of both machines

, open a support request with this data attached, and let us know it's number. We'll make sure it's handled in a proper way.

Thank you in advance for cooperation!

We are having the same problem here. I am unable to stop the task as it appears exactly like the screen shot above. I do not feel installing another application is a proper solution and a reboot is out of the question. I do not feel I should have to bring down my server in order to stop a task from running. It does not appear to be doing anything. It just hangs there after you hit the Stop Task button. How can I stop this task without installing any other software or rebooting my server?

In the event that I do have to reboot my server, is there some sort of fix that will ensure this does not happen again? I am running the latest/patched version.

I was able to get the tasks to stop so I could delete them. I will try to recreate a job now and post back here. Do you know if the updated Scheduler is going to be included with the newest releases going forward?

We are facing exactly the same issue. Task does not stop even after rebooting the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 machine. Recreating backup tasks is not a solution. Can Acronis Support provide some hints regarding this issue? Thanks in advance.

hi Guys,

In my case the only way to do anything with such a task was:

1. download processexplorer from ms sites
2. remote desktop to the machine for which task hanged
3. using processexplorer kill everything that have 'acronis' in company name
4. using services (right click my computer -> manage -> services) run acronis services
5. in backup server that task is not in 'stoping' mode, delete it and recreate it

Greg

Hi All,

I had the exact same issue as what described here and shown in the screenshot. I stopped and started the Acronis Scheduler2 Service and all the Acronis Services on the server which has the Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange Management Console installed. I even rebooted the server but that task was still still stuck and would not stop.

I then jumped on my exchange server (reboot also totally out of the question) and stopped the Acronis Scheduler2 Service. I then jumped back to my server which has the Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange Management Console installed and the status of my locked up task changed to failed and the status on all my other tasks changed from waiting to never executed.

I then jumped back on my exchange server and started the Acronis Scheduler2 Service again and I am now able to start all my backup tasks again ok.

Hope that makes sence and is of some help to somebody.

Cheers, Lon

Same problem as everyone else.

Customer support Chat sent me repair exe and that did the trick.
