Unable to load initial ramdisk

Thread needs solution

When starting the Snap Deploy Agent over PXE I get the error message " Unable to load initial ramdisk".

PC is a HP Prodesk 400G2 SFF.

I also get this message with some HP Z440 Workstations.

Acronis Snap Deploy 5 Version 5.0.1.416

Does anyone have an idea to solve his problem?

Hi,

That message appears when the agent failed to start.

Most possibly, this is an issue with the connection between the machine with the PXE server and the target machine. Please, make sur that there is a connection. You can use telnet to check it.

If you have any Firewalls (software and hardware), try to disable them for some time to be able to test the deployment then.

It’s also possible that the issue is with the PXE server itself, so I would advise you to reinstall it.

Also, try to boot the computer from the bootable media.

I was able to Telnet to my server with no issues. Firewalls are disabled. Reinstalled PXE server and still having the same issues.

Hello, Adan

Is the Agent machine in different subnet or in the same as PXE Server?

What happens if to boot that Agent machine from Acronis Bootable CD/flash drive?

PS: as a workaround,  you can try to upload WinPE bootable media to the PXE server

Best regards.

I have seen this error on local computer systems that have disks set as "RAID" in the bios instead of "AHCI".  If this is the case on these systems, I beliieve it is a BIOS memory allocation limit that is the problem as it caps out at 500MB for the ramdisk, but Acronis needs more.  If you cannot permanently set the disk type to AHCI, you should still be able to temporarily configure it as "AHCI" to allow SnapDeploy to PXE boot and do it's thing.  Then, if the image does not have the propery AHCI drivers and the system will not boot or blue screens, go back into the BIOS and change it back to RAID.
