Workstation out of domain after restart

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We are using Acronis Snap Deploy to deploy a room of 20 workstations and we are exactly in the same configuration than you:

  • A server with an ActiveDirectory (Windows Server 2012) for managing the Domain
  • Workstations with the same hardware

All of those workstations need to be deployed with the same master (taken from a post that we consider as a reference post)

In acronis we are setting the HostName and the Domain individually in the individual machine setting but when the post restarts after being deployed we are most of the time ( not 100% reproducible) out of the domain...

Thanks for helping,

Julien

The problem is you are using a single master, which means it has one SID.  If you deploy that master image and generate a new SID for each machine, that is not the same machine as AD knows the machine when it was last joined to AD.

Ultimately, you would actually need to  reset the computer object accounts in AD FIRST, include the domain join information for each deployment via the template, and then deploy the images.  The keyh is to make sure you've reset the computer object accounts in AD before deploying so that they are waiting for a new AD join when the template is configured to do that part.

Or,

You might actually be better off if you had a unique image of each system in the class, AFTER there were already joined to AD.  This would work if each system had it's own image as that image would maintain the same UUID as what it had when it was originally joined to AD.  So, you could deploy that individual image to that parituclar machine each time and it would automatically be AD joined.  The downside, would be using multiple images, so you would lose automation as you'd have to queue up each image.
