Peter,

There are a number of things that can cause the issue you have.  Please review the Thread linked below starting with post #9 through the end.  The last post is something you should investigate first.

Sir, ( wish I knew your first name ) ...  thank you for your advice. Please keep in mind that I'm an 'average joe blow ' PC user.. ( 72 years old too ) ...

Checked the operating status of both the MS softwareshadow copy service AND the Volume shadow copy service and both are in "manual"mode.

Before experimenting with seemingly the variations of disabling and other options what gets me is the any person has to do this to get acronis to work..

possibly that is  ... went from XP with acronis 2014 ( which worked perfect ) to W8.1 and 2015 version which has this 'problem'..

Again don't belive we 'average joe blow' users should have to delve into the PC systems at this level.

Seems to be a universal problem so what is Acronis' approach to help solving the "glitch".

Thanks again mate  .

This scenario that your in does not occur to that many users.  You will find a good number of references to it here on the Forum but then you should as this is the place all the problems with the software end up.

Life with Windows XP was much different than what we have today.  There were a good number of shortcomings to XP versus Apple and the Enterprise OS systems of Microsoft so with Vista a shifht was made to base the consumer OS's on the at the time NT Enterprise kernel.  The end result is a mach more stable OS but one which requires Adminstrator level support from time to time.  That all means that the end user can either attampt repair and troubleshooting themselves or rely on a repair shop.  Obiously you have chosen the former.

Post back with your results.
