Acronis fails to backup a file and pauses

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm having an issue with a backup I'm trying to do with Acronis.

There are a few files in the drive that I'm backing up that for some reason fail to back up when Acronis gets to them. The problem is that the whole backup pauses when this happens and it shows a pop up message with the options to retry or ignore the file.

The only way I can resume it is to click on the ignore option. This doesn't work for me since I do backups during the night and I need a system where the backup completes automatically and I don't have to worry about it.

Any ideas on how to deal with this? Is there a way to tell Acronis beforehand to ignore all the files that fail to backup?

Thanks,

Erik

Erik, please download a copy of the Log File Viewer App from the forum and use this to check what messages are being posted in the Service log file for the task that fails to backup your files, then we may be able to better advise you.

Not sure what files are choking specifically - that could be a problem in itself.  However, to avoid the prompts, you can edit the task in advanced mode as the screenshot shows.

Please be advised that editing a task and saving can haved an impact on your version chains and cleanup ans it essentially resets the count in that area.

You may want to create a new task and start fresh with these settings.

Run chkdsk on the partitions that you are backing up. ATI should not choke on any file unless there is a problem with the NTFS information and/or a disk error, or the file is locked and VSS cannot create a shadow copy of the file. The first 2 cases could be fixed by chkdsk. The last one is tricky. You might have to exclude the file from the backup. Very few types of files shoul d create that last problem though. What is the file?
